At last, attached the photo's that I found, so here's to the other unsung heros........

"The number of animals who have been used in war is actually quite staggering," In World War I alone, eight million horses were killed and another 2.5 million injured transporting soldiers, arms and supplies into battle.
Dogs have also played a significant role in wartimes, rescuing soldiers and civilians, delivering messages, acting as watchdogs and detecting dangerous gases, explosives and landmines. "Some dogs even parachuted behind enemy lines"

As with the fallen soldiers, may the good lord bless them all and hope they rest aware of our eternal debt to them.
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

As Vice Chair of my local British Legion it was my honour to conduct todays commemeration

I live in a small Devon town and we have 3 names on our war memorial of men who fell at the Somme

In a fortnights time I am visiting the Menin Gate with Iamkwackers and a couple of other mates. We will be laying a wreath and poppy crosses in their memory.

I visited the Somme on a biking tour in 2012,  I readily admit that I was deeply moved by the experience.

Gill and I have stayed in Ypres a couple of times since, what an amazing place it is.

You'll enjoy your trip I'm sure.

Warhorse, the show and the movie show the heroic contribution made by those wonderful animals. The story shows the incredible bravery and fortitude of one particular horse that survives it all...an unbelievably moving story..

We saw it at the Lowry last year, yes, a 50+ year old blubbing at a make believe horse, it was stunning, and heart wrenching!

Took my son, then 14 years old, on a bike tour around the Battlefield's of the Somme, Lochnagar crater, Hawthorn redoubt,  Delville and High wood, and the Newfoundlands Regiment  battlefield and preserved trenches, also the many cemeteries. I think it gave him a greater understanding of what those young men went through.
