Has anyone got any routes sorted for the weekend? or was it going to be a case of make it up as we go along?

I purposely didn't sort/suggest any routes as there are so many places that you can ride to and visit over the weekend, in my opinion (having lived in and ridden the area) it's far better that you make your own decisions about where to go and what to see, I don't like the idea of dictating where to go and what to do ..BUT here's a list of locations that are worth visiting and will all provide a good and enjoyable ride out

Masham - (Black sheep brewery centre) this town is close by and has cafe's in the Square,

Devils Bridge - Kirkby Lonsdale (ever popular bikers meet & gateway to the dry Lake District) good grub and lots of bike chat with hundreds of others you will use the A684 and then the stunning (on a good day) B 6255 to Ingleton

Richmond to Barnard Castle and then Middleton-in-Teesdale via the B6277 will provide enjoyable riding and good cafes , then on to Hartside Top near Alston over the B6277 with a spectacular descent (be careful) to Penrith on the A686

Try Leyburn which is very nearby then ride on towards  Hawes on the A684 but turn left onto the B6160 towards Kettlewell/Grassington and Pateley Bridge which is lovely and has a great olde worlde sweet shoppe on the main street

Maybe ride to Settle to wander around and visit the cafe's (the Naked Man cafe is popular) clothes required  :mfr_lol:

There are lots of places you can visit and having provided this info, which is by no means complete, I now feel even more hacked off that I cannot be there

have a really great time, enjoy, ride safe and report back with some pictures/video please   :biker3:

My unfortunately timed undiagnosed colitis grounding me for last years meet.   :nuke:

Now with the subsequent condition management starting to make life a lot easier, I was hoping to sneak up with Cheryl and supprise you all ..............possibly by buying a round or two  :stuart:

But alas business has got in the way of pleasure and as I travel back from Ireland today I find I'm working in Martock 14/15th July

May I wish the group all the best for the meet and ride safe guys  :scooter: :punk:

I'm wondering if it's worth this event even going ahead, it's going to be an abysmal turn out and not representative of what we have achieved in the past which has been truly outstanding.

Just a thought.

Rog, I didn't want people to be disappointed if they turned up only to discover it's them and a couple of others. I know Rusty is planning on coming up from Worthing, thats a fair trip by anyones standards. I  sincerley hope it does go ahead and everyone enjoys themselves and considers it well worth the effort.

So how many are actually going then?

Not you eh Pete, or Steve or me ....................

I wonder why I get the feeling that some  that can't or aren't able to go don't want others to enjoy themselves

I think it's about quality not quantity and I hope that those who do go have a really great time ............don't you ?

Oh
I think with Charley working that may leave myself and Bristol Bob and one other ... more
With no offence to anyone here but I am coming up from the Sussex coast and for a 3 man meet up I simply don't think its worth the effort, plus I only have until Tuesday to cancel my booked room for free.
Perhaps next year when, as Steve says we can get a group from this great forum that is truly representative of all the threads and members.
So as they say in The Dragons Den ... "I,m out"
I am sorry if my decision is the final nail in the coffin that puts an end to the meet but I just can't justify the expense and time in these circumstances.

I hope that you have a great time Charlie & Darren, and anyone else who still plans to attend, I hope that your enjoyment hasn't been spoiled by others, Charlie, we will no doubt speak before the weekend.

I'm angry about the negative attitude demonstrated by some members who ought to set a better example - you know who you are and I hope that you are pleased with yourselves

I have done my best to provide decent accommodation for our group, which wasn't easy, in a location which is stunning and at a price, which although a little pricey, was the best I could obtain in the circumstances.

I'm extremely upset that I cannot be there but my house move has completely eliminated any chance of that happening this year. Obviously if any member decides not to go or cannot attend then that is understandable, but I cannot accept that there seems to be an attitude of "if I can't go, then no-one else should"    :gun_bandana:

For those who seem determined to spoil this years event for other members, I have a clear message - "You can organise next years event" I won't be supporting you though  :censored:

If you have booked and cannot attend then please notify the hotel out of courtesy.

Rog, I can see where Wolf is coming from with his view on viability. With any group activity there comes a tipping point when the original idea simply doesn't work if there are insufficient people to provide the different mix of personalities and background interests that these things thrive on. It seems that, in this case, that point might have been reached.

It doesn't mean that the activity cannot still be successful, just that it is different from that originally intended, i.e. a sizeable meeting of a group of like - minded people.

As Steve has travelled to all of the previous annual meets that I have managed to attend (and probably many more) as well as a few others that were unscheduled (Wheels Peterborough for instance in late winter) I don't think that anyone can really question his motivation to support such gatherings.

My own thoughts, for what they are worth, are that pointing out to anyone who still plans to go that it will probably be a very small gathering compared with other years and without the normal range of activities organised, might preserve and just save the event for the future?

Brizzlerob

Just so we are clear, I am still coming up from Bristol and with me will be my son on his 50cc bike!! He's able to do 50mph and is really looking forward to the ride up (whether that still stands when he gets there after 6 hours in the saddle is another matter). This is the official yearly meet of which this will be my 1st, whether there is 2 or 200 riders we shall enjoy ourselves  :scooter: :biker3:

Rusty

That is good news. I hope you 1. Have a dry ride up and 2. your son really enjoys himself. It is a shame that your first GTR annual meet will not be as busy as usual and of course there will be plenty more.
