Hi All
I know i have a manual with info but..  there is no reason not to check with those in the know..  Can you guys give me a heads up on the following please as I'm planning on a fluid change this weekend after my Tour...

Best Engine Oil to Use?
Best Oil Filter?
Best Oil for the Diff/Shaft?

Anything i need to consider?

Thanks guys

I have used Silkolene super 4 motorcycle oil which is a semi synthetic oil and on eBay you can get it with a original oil filter for about £30 from Busters. You need 4.5 litres for a full change.

I also got the proper spec diff oil which is on a shelf in the garage and you don't need much to do this, don't forget NOT to overfill it by rotating the diff round to get more in, simply fill u till it runs out, rotate diff once and let it settle and check.

I also change the air filter every time as well and use the reusable ones from K&N.

I can do all of the above in less than an hour with a coffee and cake during the process.

Good advice there, a good quality 10W-40 oil for the engine will be fine as Al says a semi synthetic will be ok, in the past I've got a filter and sump washer from my local Kawa dealer (don't forget to change this washer). and remember to lightly oil the rubber sealing ring on the oil filter before refitting.  K&N air  filters are good .

And follow Als advice with the diff oil level

Yep indeed

Does it have to be semi synthetic?  I suppose so as fully synth not good for the clutch

Is the diff oil 80/90 ?

As long as it meets the right spec any oil will do, oil with friction reducing properties will make the clutch slip .
Synthetic gear oil  g5 spec if I remember correctly will be fine for the dif 1ltr will last ages , dont try to get more in by turning the wheel
Over filling will blow the seals as its an oil bath for the gears no more. Fill it all with what mr kawasaki recommendations and all will be good.

10w40 semi-synth or full synth if you like wasting money.
Any 80w90 hypoid gear oil
Any oil filter designed for gtr/zzr 1400.

Very timely thread as I've just done my beauty today. Castrol Power 1 @ £32 for 4 litres seemed reasonable.
Does anybody have a "service checklist" they'd share that I can record date/mileage/what I did today etc ?

I'm a bit anal about these things and like to keep a folder of receipts etc ready for the next owner.

On the rear drive fluid, my local dealer's workshop chappie said something like "any old 80/90 gear oil will do the job mate - we just put ATF in that FJR" - so much for GL5 to the stated specification then.

While I was at it figured I'd do SWMBO's bike too - just told her I was charging an hour plus the oil etc - she told me to go forth and cook my own tea :-( No sense of value in my time (or how much I just saved her)
