New Garmin Zumo 590 LM

I think the 660 is great as long as you know its little quirks, and it served me well down to italy and back, but I do like the look of the 590 with its extra features etc. I'm just trying to decide if I can justify the extra cost..... decisions

Yes I think so,  obviously its very early days yet, but so far it seems better.

I'm hoping that the latest curvy roads etc route options on the 590 will either reduce or eliminate the 660s quirky planning.

here's a couple of pictures showing the installation, the first picture shows the 590 fitted in a high position which obstructed the speedo so wasn't suitable, (this picture also shows the old mounting for the 660)




The device is now mounted in the 'traditional' position as shown here, sorry about the dark picture

Blimey it really didn't,  I must say I'm surprised, maybe they initially priced it wrong

I had a run out today and covered about 140 miles, so not too far, a pleasant trip over Sutton Bank in a balmy 11 degrees and it was lovely apart from some of the usual Bank Holiday chumps, some were on two wheels....bloody idiots   

The Garmin 590 performed very well and didn't choose any crazy routes, so that was good, although it did choose a different route home, which was fine,  I purposely ignored its return route choice and went my own way, which the device handled very well by re calculating.

But, ......I'm just not sure about its mounting position on my bike, as it's too low down between the bars. The handle bar handy stick option will probably have to be re deployed onto the right side bar, the problem with that is the securing bolt has been over zealously thread locked and is an absolute b*tch to shift. I think that I'd rather the device slightly obstructed the Rev counter than my speedo.

Its forecast rain tomorrow so ill have a go at swapping things around..

I have now moved the 590 to a more visible location which doesn't obscure the Speedo, the bar securing bolt on the right side was a proper barsteward to remove. but perseverance paid off and the whole assembly is now on the right side
