I'm trying to plot a route in Mapsource and I've placed in about 8 waypoints. I then transfer the data to my Zumo 550 which Mapsource recognises but then I cant make head nor tale of it, should the Zumo store this new route in Routes, (as you would expect) or in my favourites?

I can create a route or number of routes just by using the Zumo and bypassing Mapsource and that works fine. Any ideas anyone?  :-[

Hi

Starting from scratch
After you create the route in Mapsource you need to upload it to the Garmin unit ie plug the unit in to the USB connection and click the upload button.
The upload dialogue box will ask want you want to upload - make sure Routes is selected, you can also select waypoints if you want to permanently stored on the Garmin unit
Disconnect the Garmin unit from the PC (make sure you sure you use the PC's remove Hardware function first)
After the Garmin has been disconnected it will restart
After it has restarted it should say "Do you want to import Routes/Waypoints" or similar words
Select routes and the unit will import the routes
When finished go to Routes and the routes you created should be there

If you still have any problems then drop me a PM

I found this under the heading Mapsource for Dummies :  ;D  I wondered when it would become useful

It's big, it's blue and the plate says 'you have just been overtaken by a pensioner' and that really pisses sport bikes off.

Steve, I can create the routes/waypoints etc no problems within Mapsource. I then connect the Zumo and select the upload to device icon. The only option I have though is to put a tick in the Waypoint box, I cannot do anything with the Routes, Maps or Track box as those boxes are all greyed out.
The uploaded data is then saved in my favourites tab on the Zumo rather than the Routes icon. I think I see what is happening now though. Because I can only upload Waypoints it is uploading the selected destinations to my favourite tab as apposed to a new route tab.
I then have to go into the New Route tab and create the new route from destinations in my favourites tab. Its a long winded way around it but it seems to be working. I wonder how I can get those greyed out boxes unlocked, do you think it will need a call to Garmin or is there something I can do from within the software?

Redrat, many thanks for the link as well, the guide for Dummies,  ;D. I'll have  alook through it tomorrow when my heads recovered and its stopped hurting from all this thinking.  ;D

LW - I have just read through the first few pages of that link - I think you will be pleasantly surprised that most of the queries you posted are clearly identified, explained and resolved - a steady read through and you will become the forum resident expert  ::)

Its a task for later this afternoon.  ;D

just a thought have you tried using tyre a programme which lets you do this a sent it to garmain or tomom i have the tomtom and use tyre and find it user friendly

I've had a tinker around using the idiot guide above and the advice from Steve and I now know what I was doing wrong. I was simply dropping waymarks in rather than creating routes. Thats why the route tab was greyed out, because I hadn't created any! ::)

Simples!! ;D

I'm just trying to change it now though from KM to Miles. Not a big deal because it does that once the route is transferred to the Zumo.

routemaster

Glad you have sorted it out  :)

Next time remind to add the steps of checking that a route has been created  ;) ;)

I've sorted the MPH over KMH out now as well. Switch it to statute in the preferences. No idea what statute means but it sorted it.

routemaster

Statute - in this case it is the legal form of speed, distance and height measurements for the selected country.
ie UK = mph, miles & ft, France = kph, kilometres & metres etc etc. It saves having to change all three forms of measurement

Steve, many thanks for that.
