Hi Tony and welcome,

It's 4000 miles interval. I get mine done from the dealer but tbh in the future will be doing it myself including the awkward valve adjustment

What were the shortcomings of the BMW 1600?

thanks mate

short commings for me were engine noise at tickover and low speed were very excessive the bike is also long and heavy at low speed im 18 stone & short legged and i didn't feel comfortable  in between traffic , i'm no born again biker and have been riding constantly for the last 35 years i feel this bike would suit the long american highways friends of mine felt uncomfortable on the bike too

fatharry

I've yet to take the 1600 out for a test ride.......but the GTR is more sports focused, and i like having the 'tiger in my tank' for when the mood suits

Welcome to the site, enjoy your new steed...and also i concur service every 4k ;D
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

I'm gonna go have to ride me one of those beasts. MCN gave it a good review. I'll know in the first 5 mins if I like it or not. Because its BMW -1 already for the snobbery

I heard the excess on Beamers for test rides is £2500 - so don't drop it!  :-[
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

E2ONY

guy that test rode before me dropped it , my test ride delayed for a week and he was out of pocket by 900 quid , think he settled cash , but the excess for me was 1500

I think I'll risk it. Want to see what the fuss is about

Getting away from the bm talk my take on the manual that comes with the 2011 model is that the service interval is 7500mls this is when the oils and filters are changed and checks and adjustments are made.

There is a service interval of 3750mls which appears little more than an inspection of the hydralic's and the brake pads - nothing replaced or adjusted.

As I inspect the bike everytime I clean it which is more frequent than 3750 then mine will only go to the dealer every 7500mls - and before any says it does not invalidate the warranty

Warranty only void if what you did or didn't do caused the problem - have a letter from Kawasaki UK stating such

Rusty

Fred is right with the 3750 mile bit ... strange number I thought ! Mine is booked in for its " 1st  " service on the 16th, and will have covered about 4400 by then ... I always over run because of the commuting and trying to fit the bike in at the dealer on a day when I am off work. TBH as long as you are not 1000'ds of miles over then I am sure all would be fine  :)

fred24

Lord Rusty I'll be interested to know if they actually do anything to your bike other than look at it.

Taking mine to the dealer for a service means a day of work and hanging around Wigan until its finished which is a waste of a days holiday unless they actually do something to the bike that either I can't or don't want to do.

If they actually do something at 3750 then I may change my view of the 3750 service interval

Rusty

Well Fred .. I'll let you know.
