As some of you are aware, I treated myself to a private reg for the GTR.

VOSA duly sent me a new MOT certificate and V5 document

Took the bike for a new MOT with both the V5 doc and the two MOT certificates (one for the old plate and one for the new)

Bike passed, new MOT provided.

What I didn't realise at the time was that the new MOT was against the old plate - I just didn't check

So there I am doodling along on my bike when Mr Plod stops me for not having a MOT. Fortunately I had all the docs with me at the time, and he was quite understanding about it. He advised me to go back to the station and get it fixed, as I'd probably get stopped again and he wasn't sure himself from a legal point of view if the bike should be on the road.

Back to the MOT station but they can't do anything as its been over two weeks and they can't amend on the system.

So I tried to ring VOSA (or whatever they are called now), and just got handed over to different departments until the line went dead (twice)  :censored:

Now, the guy that did the MOT wasn't there when I went back as he promised to sort it out, and won't be back for another week as he's on his holidays.

Should I carry on riding the bike, or wait till its sorted.

to be honest, its more hassle than its worth. Just get it MOT'd with the correct reg and put it down to experience. Cost you a lot more in time and money if you get pulled and fined. Is it really worth it for the sake of £30.

Yeah, I'm fast coming to that conclusion myself. I might ring up the Garage and see if they will do it for free or reduced price as a goodwill gesture

Can you go by frame numbers ?. Both number plates will share the same frame numbers.

O.C.

:agree: 100%....personalised plates etc are all fine and good, but they can be a royal PITA, I have ones on my car and bike, if it wasn't for the fact that they have both appreciated considerably in value since I bought them and the fact that putting them on retention is an expensive excercise, I probably would have sold them a year or so ago

Good luck Asif, I'm sure it will get sorted mate

why the hell does the old number plate still get recognised by the VOSA mot system. Ive got PPlates on all  my vehicles  and the day the plate gets changed over and I do a " is it taxed " search on the DVLA system on the old plate it comes up as no vehicle details found

Havent  looked at my mot for a while .Is the frame number not on the certificate. If it is the bike should be ok mot wise but still have the hassle of wrong plates fitted.Just my thoughts.

I just put a personlaised number from my bike on to retention as I was selling bike. DVLA sent me out reg V5 document with original plate and MOT. I noticed MOT they sent me was old private registration and called DVLA they told me they no longer issue a new MOT slip in these cases as they now go with chassis number to identify bike and when new owner comes to MOT bike the MOT station will issue a new MOT with correct number plate then.

Seems like a cost cutting exercise to me.
Ah Well you only live once! Although still have trouble convincing the wife lol

My thoughts are with you on this one my friend. It just seems that you are being punished for the errors of others. Still £30 could be the cheapest £30 you've ever spent

Mate,  seriously,  that is down to the MOT station,  I wouldn't be paying out any money,  they need to sort that out or I'd report them to whoever regulates them and give them their licence.  Common sense will prevail with any copper who stops you if you have the MOT certs tucked away in the glove box or a photo of them on your phone.  Just out of interest,  do a check on ask mid. Com and check your insurance actually changed your registration as it also may be showing the previous plate on PNC.
