Gresty

Hi folks,
I'm Andy from Sandbach in Cheshire. Just in the process of trading in my Sprint ST for a GTR. Apparently its not that comfy being a pillion on the Sprint, so 'Mrs Gresty' tells me, and she doesn't fancy our planned trip to the South of France and Italy on the Sprint now she's been on the back of the GTR. I must admit I'm looking forward to something a bit different having had a few Sprints and a VFR before that, so a deviation from type for me. I must admit I was looking for another Triumph when the Kwak caught my eye.  The only thing now is to get some miles under my belt and I think th GTR is just the bike for that so here goes.

Welcome Gresty, I traded in a 1050 ST for the GTR and don't regret it. Though I do miss that triple burble on the slow down, If only Mr T could come up with a GTResque tourer I could be swayed back. Did 2000 miles last year to the dolomites and back and the bike exceeded my expectations for a bike a good bit bigger than the ST.

Hi 100

Its a 2008 Concours in silver. Only done 11k miles, so just broken in really.   Will be looking to add many more asap. Me and the mrs are off to the South of France and Italy in July, might even go through the Black Forest on the way back if we have time. However, a small trip to Scotland is planned before then and will be taking some days out and the usual trip to work to keep it ticking over.

Hi Flash

I know Middlewich very well as grew up there and still have family there; and of course I only live up the road. I work in Widnes so I go in the other direction(ish).

Not seen much of this site so will be interested to see what's happening and get to know a few people.

Hello Gresty and welcome ....
you will love the GTR, there is no doubt about that ! I too had a VFR some years ago now and I have to say it was "spot on " for everything ... after 6 years I just fancied a change and got a CBR1300, naked, and 4 years after that here I am ....... and this, well, is the best so far by a country mile .... enjoy !

Lonewolf

Gresty, if you are heading upto Scotland anytime from mid June onwards I might even bump into you. Although hopefully not literally!!

Didn't realise Middlewich was such a popular place with GTR owners luckily I only work there

Firstly, welcome to the forum...i'm sure you'll love the GTR, it is an awesome piece of engineering

AS for the Triumph question, i had a Tiger 1050 (which i loved but wrote off)...and i too am a big Triple fan.....however Triumph will be entering the Sports Touring/Touring market at the end of this/start of next year......rumour mills are rife with Talk of the Trophy brand making a comeback, powered by an all new 1200cc Triple....and Mr T have set their sights on the GTR/FJR/K1300 end of the market, my local dealer has promised that this bike will be a match for the Big Tourers in terms of power and Bling....I for one am watching what they do very closely...there's not much that would tempt me away from the GTR but a big displacement tripl might just do it.......as an aside i believe this new engine will also be transplanted into the 2012 Tiger too ;D
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

pembsgtr

FH  I too have heard the trophy rumour, and like you it would need ti be something special to warrant getting rid of the GTR. though the sound of a big triple could well be enough, , I guess we will just have to wait and see what Mr t turns out.

Today was the day that the Sprint went and in its place is the GTR.  Must admit there was a moment when I asked myself what I was doing. However, I get the feeling that in a few weeks, when things have settle down, and there's a few more miles on the bike, I will only be looking forward. Having picked the bike up in Stoke the first trip was to the Cat and Fiddle to get a feel for the bends, etc...  With Mrs G on the back I must admit the GTR was in good form and even Mrs G loves it. There's a plan in place for a trip to Scotland next month and then after tha the South of France and Italy. Just need to find something for August and September.
