Hi,

I've been lurking around this site for years and would be interested to hear your views.

I've had my GTR1400 since new, 08 plate, 16K mileage, immaculate, Top Box, Large screen.

I'm due a change, so looking for an year old BMW1600GT (I know, it comes to us all!).

One BMW dealer offered me £5000 and another £5500....................are they taking the 'P'?

I guess my only alternative is to privately sell, but it could take months and it's hassle. :help:

Saw an 08 plate 7800miles for £7800 in a dealers the other day. And dealers usually offer around £1000 under market value on a trade in on low mileage so I am guessing they would be looking for £6800 for yours.

Blimey, I would be surprised if they get that, it does seem well over.

I would think about 6K would be reasonable ... It may be your pride and joy but it is 6 years old and dealers arn't keen on anything that belongs in the ark. Good luck. Post some piccies on here .... It may go quicker than you think.

I got £6000 trade in for an 07 with 16000 miles in Feb this year against an almost new bike.  I think £5500 would be very fair and I don't think they are taking the p*ss

Yes, I think 6K is about right.

The BMW dealers tend to invite outside trade buyers - hence the poor part-ex prices for anything non-BMW.

if you can get anything in the 5k range then that is good, id be surprised if I could get 7k and mine is a 2010 model with 12k miles . research on ebay shows higher figures but its common knowledge that most private sales usually settle at 20% less than asking price .

i was only offered 6.5K for a 12 plate,it then had 8k on the clock.

A BMW K1600 sounds familiar.... :whistling:

I sold my 11 plate last week with 24k on the clock and got £7k for it which to be honest was ok as I only paid £9k for it two and a half years earlier. I put 17k miles on it while I had it. In February of this year I was offered £7.5k for it by a BMW dealer although it had about 18k miles on it then.

Pro rata what I got for it this month with an extra 6k miles on it seemed reasonable. I didn't sell it to a BMW dealer but I did sell it to a local bike shop. The difference between trade in deals seems bizzarre, one local dealer (non BMW) who I wanted to px with only offered me 6k against an 11 plate K1600 costing £12k which I turned down and the dealer I sold outright to with no purchase from them offered me £7k.

Is there logic in that?

I don't really care what it's up for. I was happy with the deal, he was happy with the deal.

Why do people never put any value on how much fun they have had on their bike?.

If say you gave £10,000 pounds for a bike, use it for 5 years, then swop it for a new one, and the dealer offers you half of what you paid for the bike originally.   What's wrong with that?.    You could have had a few holidays on the bike, and lots of w/ends and days off playing out with your mates.    How much value do you put on that?. The joy that most people get out of motorcycling is    priceless.

I think you're missing my point Steve....It's my opinion that the dealer hasn't added too much to his original purchase price considering he has to make a profit, pay overheads, etc., etc., plus he'll almost certainly have to knock some of the price off to a non part exchange deal, or more likely have to over allow against a part exchange when he sells the GTR.

He obviously thought the bike was worth what he has paid for it

I have bought four bikes from him in the past ~ when he was located on Manningham Lane and he always looked after me.
