Or in our case North meets South.

Rusty, (Nigel) and his family have been experiencing the delights of The Lakes this week and I had the pleasure of popping up to visit him, his good lady and Mollie the border collie on Tuesday for a pub lunch and a catch up.

Ambleside.....been many a time before but I don't remember having the parking problems I experienced on Tuesday. Maximum, one hours parking and then you have to move and that's after you've got a parking disc from a shop. Anyway I managed but Nigel had the right idea, parking elsewhere and walking into town. Perhaps I should have done that.

Lovely weather, totally dry and I had a cracking day. (Nigel many thanks for allowing me to intrude on your family holiday and blagging a free meal off you).

Well today, we are up in The Lakes having a weeks holiday/break away from my home town. We're staying near Millom in a wonderful farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, just what we like, no neighbours, traffic or any other distractions.

Just had a lovely BBQ on the terrace surrounded by sheep and cows and associated smells! Tesco delivery van got lost but found us eventually so at least we could eat.

If anyone's passing feel free to give us a shout and pop in and say hi.

The car park in Ambleside is a good bet if you are planning on staying/shopping for a while, blue time discs are available but if not displayed you will get a ticket, the wardens seem to hide in shop doorways waiting to pounce

The weekend weather looks to be set fair and the West coast around Millom is very pretty and peaceful...good choice, However Millom itself is a bit ...... well...a bit of a dump TBH

You haven't said exactly where you are so it'll be tough trying to find you

have a great time and good relax/chill out...pictures will be required of course  :mfr_lol:

OC, we're at a place called Whitcham Valley, staying in a traditional farmhouse which is bloody huge. Photos will follow of course, as always. Thankfully we have wifi here.

Just had a text a short while ago from Nigel he's landed back in Worthing and once again has wifi  and promises to update this thread once he's able to do so.

Meanwhile in sunny Whitcham Valley I've been out this morning walking up small hillsides, exploring dales and finally this afternoon having a dip in the spa whilst trying to keep both dogs out. We've never stayed on vacation up here before, we've previously opted for Cornwall or Scotland but it's seriously lovely up here I'm glad we came.

Here's a few photos of the place we're staying at and the surrounding countryside including of course the hounds.

This is our abode for the next week.

Our bedroom to give you an idea of the scale of the place inside.

One for the nature lovers amongst us....if we have any.

A teaser of the countryside views, it's horrible, we're surrounded by all this grass and stuff.

Our Mac, the Springer poised to spring as always!

Back at the ranch both dogs just chilling out watching tea being cooked on the BBQ.

Milo has to be the ugliest dog on the planet but he's my ugly dog so keep your hands off.

Me and the wolfess had a spa this afternoon while trying to keep unwanted visitors out of the water.

So there we are at the end of day two...we know there is bad weather looming for next week, but so far its been very enjoyable.

Rusty

Nigel, glad you had a good trip home. As for The Lakes, we take it for granted what with it being right on our doorstep virtually but it is nice territory to explore.

Looking forward to seeing some of your photos when you get a moment or two.

Had another short trip out today and went to Wast Water just off the A595 about 20 miles from where we are staying.
Just to refresh peoples memories of how lovely it is round here I took some pics.

Had a great pub lunch at this place....

A couple of random photos of Wast Water as we drove back to the main road.

and finally back at the farm house awaiting the BBQ tonight has been the clearest evening so far, rumour has it if I'd gone to Specsavers I could have seen Blackpool Tower, but alas no matter where I looked I couldn't pin point it.

Rusty

BBQ,s AND good weather ! Can't go wrong with that !
