I've been waiting for Winston Smith to post a thread about Sundays ride but he hasn't, so hopefully he won't be offended if I start one off.
Firstly let me say thanks for the invite and despite me slowing him down and possibly causing him some frustration with my sedate, apprehensive riding style, he didn't moan once. What he said to everyone else via Autocom though, I'll never know!
I arrived with minutes to spare at Seaways in Fridaythorpe, East Yorkshire and then after a few introductions we mounted up for the off. There was a slight technical hitch.....not with me I hasten to add, but it involved some heavy punches and later a pair of pliers. I'm sure Winston will tell all should you ask.
A few pic's of Seaways should anyone want to head out there in the future, a bustling cafe, even early on.

My fine looking GTR in the foreground.

I'm not too sure of the entire route which we all took. It was a bit of a blur, but a good blur, nevertheless. I do remember heading out towards Whitby where we stopped just beyond RAF Fylingdales on a large car park. Twelve of us in the car park, taking pics and having a quick break.

The pliers incident!!

Winston, looking to PX do you think?

One of, I think four Pans which were with us.

The next port of call was a lovely little village, whose name I do not know! Nor would I ever be able to find it again. Anyway, we all stopped off at a very busy cafe, frequented by bikers and cyclists alike. Shame that the staff couldn't cope with the high volume of clientele. How difficult is it to remember that somebody has ordered a cup of tea?

Chewing the fat.

Winston Smith.

A touch of history.  I have to admit I didn't know who John Wesley was, but I do now. For anyone who wants to find out, here you go... http://www.brycchancarey.com/abolition/wesley.htm

Village life.

The Old Rectory.

Eventually we arrived at Reeth. Now I've been to Reeth many a time but never actually stopped, however in future I'll be making regular stops there thank you very much, especially now that I've been introduced to the pie shop.  Bikes carefully parked up and off we all marched to the pie shop.

From Reeth, we carried on into Kettlewell where I set off for home towards Skipton while those who were still with us stopped off for a drink and probably more food.
I think I did about 230 miles approx, so it was a pretty decent run out. Many thanks again for the invite.  I'm sure Winston will be along soon to fill in the gaps and clarify where we actually went. Navigation never was my strong point!!

Hope you all enjoy the pics.

Wowsa!  Better than my entry on the RoSPA site!

The route was Seaways, to Sledmere, out into North Yorkshire through Yedingham, past Dalby Forest and along the A169 and eventually cross country through Sleights to Glaisdale stopping at Lealholm for tea (and a cheese toastie LW!!)
We then went out to Northallerton and on into the Yorkshire Dales eventually to Reeth (see the Pie Shop!!)
From here down to Kettlewell where LW split and the rest of us headed off down the B6106 (i think?) eventually onto the A59, down to Harrogate and then on to York through to the A1079 and back to Beverley.

I will attach the post from our RoSPA site in another post.

Excellent day out, and if anyone else cares to join us next time you are more than welcome.

Also - reason for not posting until now was staying up to about 1am doing the entry on the RoSPA site.  On a school night.  When I was up at 5.55am  :o

Quote from: Two-HatWow!  What a great rideout with the Bike Section of the Club!

13 riders (not all RoSPA-ers) took the road from Seaways having feasted on their wares!

Everyone was there for the appointed set off time of 10am sharp - Always behave or Westie will scowl at you!

Leonie turned up having 'bumped' into Robin Smith (we will absorb him into the collective!) at a petrol station.

The gang gathered and were briefed by Westie - something along the lines of "Follow Me and keep up"!

The ultimate destination was Reeth for Pasties (!!!) which saw us head up the A169 towards Whitby!! This did cause some consternation amongst those expecting to head to Reeth, however not to those of us used to Westie runs.....

First Tea Stop was a 'quick stop' - Yeah Right!  The cafe was a little busy and the last order arrived as Westie was geeing everyone up to set off!

The gang had a good chance to sit and chat - non members and members getting to know one another.

Craig and Ray hold court!

Was about 1330 when we set off so four of the gang headed off back via Helmesley - But thats another story eh, Leonie?!!

Talk to the Hand, Not to the Face!

Eventually made it to Reeth where said Pasties were purchased along with a hot coffee

3 wise monkeys!

We were joined by Ron - a 90yr old ex Spitfire pilot who was most impressed with the machines we were on and even more so at our lady riders.
He was firmly set in the past, chatting about the war years and his training in the 40's.  I did ask, but he hasn't got a lad called Pete.  He went on to regail a story of the best Spitfire landing he ever saw was by a couple of WAAFs delivering them.  I believe the description was - to land a Spitfire you had to get all three point touching down at once - Like a cat taking a c**p!

From Reeth we headed off towards Kettlewell, but due to comms issues and some appalling traffic, the group got split.

I ended up with Ray and Rosie (not bad company though!)

Final fill-up at Harrogate

Not quite sure what Rosie has done..........

'Action' Shots!

All in all a fantastic day out - lots of people at varying levels of skill, enjoying a superb social day out and learning from each other.  A guest, Steve, from the GTR1400 OC, made a great point that just riding out with advanced riders helped raise his competency.

He was impressed with the advanced riders and said he could tell who were and who weren't - take that as a compliment advanced rider members of our club.

Looking forward to the next one, sure we will have another cracking day out with plenty of tea and pastie/chips/sarnies/cakes (delete according to taste!)

Great write up there Winston. To be honest I was impressed with everyones riding ability, apart from mine ::). I'm not generally a group rider, hence Lonewolf. It opened my eyes to a different style and class of riding.

Many thanks for the invite.  ;D

Winston Smith

Without sounding like a mutual appreciation society, I saw nothing wrong with your riding.

Good thing with that particular group is that it isn't a race with them, all sensible and systematic, but still progressive and fun to ride with.

I will steel myself to tell the punching and pliars story!!  ;D

Right.  Basically.  It's down to crap design by the big K!

We were running 3 bikes with comms, mine being one of them.  The chosen channel wasn't tuned in to mine so off comes the seat.

Quick re-tune and we're ready to roll.

Erm, no.

Big K's lock catch, a piece of angled metal at the back of the seat (we all know which one) didn't locate properly.

So, I am a bloke, what do we do?

Yupp!  Punch back of seat to 'make' it lock.

Result?  Bent piece of metal, half the group set off half the group waiting for 'Mr Fix-It'!

Rode with unlocked saddle up to the first stop (outside Sleights) when I was presented with a selection of pliars to bend it back into place!

All sorted now!  :-[ :-[ :-[

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Excellent write up guys and nice pictures.
I didn't get out until well in the afternoon.......Maybe next time.

Brute force always works ;D I remember my friend wrecking his bike on a race so we ended up straightening the sub frame by tying the front wheel down and hanging the rear from a rafter.

Nice writeup. Hopefully will get the chance to come out on a rideout with you guys shortly. Like LW, I'm normally solo and have never ridden in a group.

I ride in groups quite a lot...have to say that i find it very helpful, especially as we have quite a few advanced instructors in our midst.....i'm doing IAM at the end of the summer when i am strong enough to get the most out of it. But on occasions there is nothing better than me, myself and I on an early morning run down to the coast, for breakfast by the sea  ;D

I enjoy the tranquility of riding at my own pace, stopping where I choose to stop, etc and generally being in control of my day out. (Control freak at heart) ;D
However this particular ride was an eye openor in a good way for me, firstly everybody was friendly and didnt ram any (I'm an advanced this and that down your throat), everyone was just there to enjoy themselves and get out on the bike. They were a friendly bunch too.

I've been working on this for a while, nothing special I admit but just a little taster of what we got up to. This is Part 1, there will be additional episodes I will add on as and when I can, (hopefully quicker than I got this one out). Apparantly there was a problem with Copyright on the music I added to this first video clip so I had to remove it and start again!! >:(
