Has anyone come across this one, whilst i was away to Stafford bike show for the wk end my bike had been stolen from my
brick built, alarmd garage "not the GTR". On phoneing my insurance questions asked as they would and one was " was the steering lock on ? " No, as i have a few bikes i move them around and it is in a garage brick built and alarmed. Its not coverd.
What the ffffff, none of my friends do either, well they do now.

P.S. Northumbria police was informed at 9 am sunday and as yet i have had no corrispondense with them not even a phone call. They don`t even know the colour of the bike never mind the details. Yes ive been to the cop shop but the officer in charge finished at 5 pm today !!!!!!

Hmm, I'll be honest I very rarely put my steering lock on, on the GTR but I will be from now on, I might even go do it straight after Emmerdale!
The response from the Police doesn't shock me in the slightest, our local Fuzz are just as bad. I hope your bike turns up intact and the Police get their finger pulled out. Perhaps posting some details on here of it and maybe a photograph could help, it certainly couldn't do any harm.

Emmerdale?  WTF?
Four is fun.  Six is sex.

Yep, Emmerdale. I like to watch documentaries like that.

my bike is in an integrated brick garage with thatcham ground anchors front and rear wheel, I never put my Steering lock on as my anchors and chains are positioned for the fitment to be snug with the front wheel aligned straight, im gonna need to rethink that,

if they defeat my other security the steering lock wont be an obstacle for them!

Just lie. How can they prove otherwise?

only if they recover the bike and the steering lock is intact and not snapped

Failure to use a security device can be deemed as contributary negligence, just like leaving your car unlocked or your front door wide open.
Argue the toss and make sure you include details of the security that was in place, everything that is from garage doors to pet dogs to having a van parked up to the garage door. Name, list and send photos of everything with your claim. Never give up if you feel the insurance company's response is unfair or unjust. Then complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) in a controlled and professional manner without emotion, with photos etc etc. FOS have often awarded proportional payments which reflect the amount of negligence rather than a total refusal. Don't give in, ever.

I hear what you're saying but as Viper has said if they subsequently discover you have lied then you could/would be looking at an attempt fraud if they wanted to push it. Additionally you don't want a black marker against you with insurance companies refusing to insure you because of your dishonesty.
Just summat to bear in mind. My GTR is resting currently in the locked garage which is alarmed, fitted with a covert IR camera, has two cars parked in front of the garage door and I have two dogs guarding the house, the only difference tonight is that I have applied the steering lock for the first time ever. You can never be too careful living in shitsville.
I do hope you get the claim even partly honoured although obviously a complete change of heart by your insurance company would be a result. Who is your insurer if you done mind me asking?

The brokers are MCE, ins comp Alpha who turn out to be Scandanavian. The guy on the phone did mention about tellin fibs about the lock and if the bikes recoverd and proved not to be on its fraud and things get even worse.
I shan`t give up, things are coming to lite all the time and hopefully its amunition me me, im out of pocket £1500 at the mo
so what the hell.
PS cops still havn`t been any use ive had to chase them !!
