Can anyone explain why anyone would want a keyless fuel cap on a road bike?
I can understand the reason for having one on a race bike.

I think Viper has one but not sure..

If there is little risk of fuel theft, why not. Many of the Yanks fit them so they don't have to use the key.

At their fuel prices they may get away with it but not here.  :mfr_lol:

Asif had one on his. At the end of the day I guess it saves a lot of messing about. You still get the occasional theft of diesel from HGV's but I can honestly say I've never been to a job where unleaded has been nicked from a car, never mind a bike.

OK, let's all get keyless fuel caps and see how long that will stay true.  :mfr_lol:

They may be keyless but you still have to put the cap somewhere , a flip up keyless one would be much better,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

yup, ive got a keyless fuel cap and to be honest ive been using them for 20 years or so on my bikes, now you can get decent ones but years ago i used to fab my own. I find the ease of not having to use a key so easy and convienient , key ones i have used have started to weaken the key eventually. my bikes have always been in a garage and only get used on nice weekends, so the chances of fuel theft for me are very very small, its never happened and ive not heard of it happening !  the only time the bike is exposed is on our euro tour once a year. if someone wanted my fuel im sure a key cap wouldnt be much of a challenge . some bikes you can still drain the fuel from the petcock anyway

If you find the Kipass feature on the GTR convienient then you will feel the same about the keycap, incidently ive had a key cut that fits the panniers and seat and that is on the ring with my topbox key, i never need to take the fob out of my pocket and the cooker knob never gets taken out of the ignition which greatly prolongs the life of the often reported troublesome Ig barrel

Why do you think they invented lockable fuel caps in the first place?  :ohplease:
In the days when most cars and bikes didn't have them petrol theft wasn't as uncommon as you may think.
You make it easy for thieves and they will nick it regardless of the value.
Most people didn't even notice their tank had been siphoned since they usually only stole a couple of litres at a time.
And as far as petcocks go, that may be right for old bikes but you would have a hard time to get at the fuel line of a GTR or most other fuel injected bikes.
I stopped using the big key of the GTR because, and there you are 100% right, it is just too easy to bend it. Therefore I only use the spare key in the card thingy for panniers and the fuel cap. Now hassle at all and you try to bend that one!

I just found it alot more convenient tbh. Saves messing about at the petrol station

Now if I really wanted to save messing about at the petrol station I would just siphon my fuel out of your tank.  :mfr_lol:
Quicker and a lot cheaper too.  :whistling:
The only disadvantage is that petrol tastes really horrible and you often end up with some in your mouth when you suck on the hose.  :embarrassed:

Well, I for one would like to have a keyless fuel cap. Much less hassle when filling up.

Just a pity we don't get them down here in the RSA !!!   :gun_bandana:

LW,

Unfortunately I have been to many inc's where petrol has been stolen from cars, forget the locking fuel caps though, the toerags get under the car and just cut the fuel line.....

Shame they never managed to cover themselves in said petrol and ignite it!!!

At the end of the day, if someone wants to nick it, they will. I guess its all personal choice, and if it works for you, go for it. If Viper has managed 20years without losing fuel, then its clearly working for him, and good on you i say.

I'll stick with the locking one, cos I'm too lazy to change it  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

We must have been extremely lucky then. We do however get a lot of cat converters nicked, big money in them.

As you say though if someone wants it they'll just take it anyway, you can only do your best to safeguard your belongings, the rest of it unfortunately in today's society appears to be down to luck!
