Warm soapy water is normally your best bet.

Must admit I've used it myself on my visor with no problems, never used it on the screen though.

I think they don't recommend using it on visors because you may get a slight rainbow effect looking through it at night in the rain with oncoming headlights but it doesn't cause me any safety concern and I haven't noticed any chemical reaction with the acrylic visor.

I sometimes see the same slight rainbow through the car windscreen if the conditions are right and it doesn't effect safety there.

I clean my visor & screen with Windolene and Ive never had a problem

Does anyone wear glasses and tried using the 'pinlock' thing on a shoei helmet at night in the rain?    :censored:  :shit:  :hammer:

routemaster

Yes and I don't recall any problems

I've been using rainx on my screen and visor weekly for 3 - 4 years and no issues so far :-)

I would avoid Rain-Ex on lexan or acrylic etc plastics such as visors/screens.

Chemicals in it can weaken structure and whilst they may appear OK can become brittle and may shatter if impacted with something - will seem OK until exposed to extreme trauma (large sharp piece of gravel for example)

If you just want to clean bugs off your visor, then I'd recommend this -> http://www.visorvision.co.uk/shop/index.php?cPath=22

It's amazing how easily it removes dead bugs.  Each sponge lasts a few months with care, just don't squeeze them out.

As long as your visor doesn't have an external anti-fog coating you'll be fine.

I also clean my visors and screens with Windowlene (the green spray stuff).
It does the job and only struggles to remove the hardests most baked on bug-guts.
For that I use Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover.

I tried Rain-X before but found it to be only marginally effective and then only for a little while.
As soon as you start wiping your visor with your glove it's gone.

The best thing I found years ago was a glove with a built in wiper blade on the thumb.
Have not managed to find a glove with one since.
I hate the ones you fit over the glove as they restrict the flexibility of the thumb.

I agree, chemicals on visors could make them very brittle.

I find the best way to get rid of the most stubborn stuck on bugs is to wet a couple of sheets of kitchen towel, lay them over the visor for a few mins, give it a wipe, and hey presto. No bugs, cheap and effective
