O.C.

A pal of mine has a biker friend who was recently knocked off his bike by a Pedestrian who ran out into the road in front of him.

The resultant bikers injuries were severe and sadly included loss of sight in one eye.

It transpires that the bikers insurance cover did not include personal injury cover which he had assumed was included, this means that his personal injury claim will now have to be made from the wandering pedestrian, which might prove very difficult

The point of this post is to ask you all to check your bike insurance and make absolutely sure that you have rider and pillion where appropriate, personal injury cover.

I just checked mine which is with MCE and I'm, NOT covered !

i alway thought it was standard that you could not claim personal injury from your own insurance , only other people can claim against you  or you have to claim from the 3rd party, which is usually another vehicle

thanks for the heads up

Kevin

:agree: I've always understood my injuries in any accident I cause were my problem not the bike/car insurers.

I'm old enough to know better but don't

Personal injury wouldn't normally be included in your policy. You'd be expected to claim from the 3rd party insurance.

I spoke to MCE and they offer two different levels of personal injury insurance, Basic and Level 2 , with the basic level providing £1000.00 and level 2 £5,000.00 ...level two costs £93 p.a and includes pillion [/b]

Not sure the figures posted are correct ie £1k and £5k, but in a serious accident that sort of cover is not worth having. Losing a limb or much worse would warrant £100 k of cover. But I expect that would (Pardon the pun) cost an arm and a leg.

as quoted to me on the phone by MCE yesterday

I too thought that they were paltry when compared to a loss of limb etc type injury
