.

- yo.

- am coming onto my second oil change.

- anyhow , the oil change intervals as mentioned in the owner's manual seems very long.

- of the top of my head , its at 1000 kms (600 miles) , then onwards at 12,000 kms (7,400 miles) intervals.

- my dealer here is recommending the 2nd oil change happen at 3000 kms (1,800 miles) and then onwards at 5000 kms (3,100 miles). He's a very experienced dealer , is a racing nut to boot and plain doesn't believe the intervals in the owner's manual ... haha.

- anyone with experience here on this interval issue ? And how it affects performance / shifting on the GTR ?

- am using Sikolene synthetic 10W-40 , as per manual.

thanks

.

Always change fluids every 4000 miles.
Better to be old and grey than the alternative!

Just a thought but why don't you just change the oil at the specified intervals otherwise you would be adding additional running costs to the bike.
I'm sure during the development of the engine that some smart engineers talked to the oil manufacturers/developers and they agreed on the life of the oil.
Certainly fully synthetic oils will go 7.5K between changes even if you thrashed the engine every ride.
Just my opinion.

I am of the opinion that one size does not fit all. Service and therefore fluid change intervals should be dependent on how you use your bike. I use mine daily all year round with a large number of short journeys to commute to work inter-dispersed with occassional long runs. I consider it is worth the extra expence to ensure that oil is in tip top condition.

- good point there and would agree that its always better to just follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

- but when I mentioned the manual's intervals ... they kinda looked at me like I was nuts .... anyhow , just called them up and they want the bike in for the brake recall ... and will get the oil changed in one go.

Which is pretty much what the handbook says. 7,500 is a maximum not an absolute.

Small price relative to the cost of the bike. May be unnecesary but I think it is worth it.

I do ( and have done on all my bikes ) oil change and new filter every 5 000 Km's.
