Fess up, who has dropped the GTR? It is a big bike so easy to drop.

I've managed to drop it. Felt tired after a days riding, decided to pull up as I was progressing down a steep hill. Mentally made a note to ensure the bike was in gear before getting off as bike would be pointing downhill. Totally forgot, got off and bike went over the side stand. Fortunately landed in a soft grass verge so no damage to the bike. With back to bike managed to get it up easily enough. Problem was that the bike was in neutral and wanted to go downhill. Managed somehow to get it stable by getting it in gear.

have been dam lucky not to drop either my zzr1400 or the gtr1400, I say lucky because they are heavy bikes and it can happen! the last bike I drop was a honda st1300, I had been riding a few hours, and decided to pull on to a car park for a smoke, but the car park was full of small loose stones, I put my foot down and my foot slipped under the stones. I did not try to be a hero! I just let it go and placed it on the ground. just ended up with some scuffs "here and there" which more or less polished out after a few polishers. last year I went to france, when I was there I met this guy and his wife who had a new rt 1200 b.m.w. he did not have much luck. first he lost his passport, and when he went to the police station to report the loss, a simular thing happended to him. put his foot down and it slipped on loose stones, he managed to jump clear of the bike, but his wife froze and stayed with the bike which landed on her. she spent most of that day in the hospital waiting to be seen for a badly "black and blue" leg. and to make things worse he broke is wing mirror, badly scratch the pannier and got a hear full of his wife for buying a bike that was to big for him, of cousre he blamed her! he was fully loaded with normal luggage plus he had a tent on the top box, also had a big tank bag. it was funny listening to them slagging each other off on a petrol forecourt on the way home!

getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Thankfully, touch wood the GTR has never been dropped but I would be fibbing if I said I hadn't had a close call. There have been a couple of occasions when I have pulled over to the nearside, flicked down the side stand intending to get off and then been a little concerned at just how much the bike has leaned over because there has been a harsh camber on the road at the precise point I have stopped.
I have to admit if I ever did drop it I would be gutted!

suppose it depends alot on your size! am a short arse, at 5 ft 7 inchs. so do have a kawasaki low seat on the gtr1400 and a corbin seat on my zzr1400. I can manage ok. have just learnt over the years to master precise control on the front brake! due to the camfer off the road, this allows me to put my right foot down, a couple of times have had a near miss where a heavy h.g.v as worn a track in the road or the road as a deep hole have not noticed, this then makes the bike lean a bit more, then am on my tip toes. I think the min height for the gtr1400 as got to be about 5ft 7 inch or a min inside leg lenght of 29 inchs. like me, this allows you do get one foot flat on level ground "on the right side" due to the camfer of the road. any shorter and your pushing your look, so if there any shorter gtr1400 riders out there under 5 ft 7 inch.       BE CAREFULL, PLASTICS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE!

Well, no. BUT I have a couple of dropping stories from my last bike!!
First was on the York ring road where my short arsed mate on his R1 pulled up along side me and tippled over he was that short, lucky for him me and the Hayabusa were there for him to fall against! >:(
Secondly, it was one of my legendary BBQ meets where my quite new next door neighbour managed to drop the bike whilst stationary in the garage ::) He's a short arse too  ;D
Here's a pic of the antics we used to get up to. I'm getting old now tho lol

Which one of the miscreants is you, or are you hiding behind the camera?

Nygie

I'm the one with the glasses (no glasses now), lad top left is the one who dropped it!

i dropped mine, not long after i bought it.

I went out to a local bike meet after work. Stopped in a layby to make another change to rear pre-load. Got off the bike, forgetting to put the side stand down.

I broke its fall and fortunatley it didnt break any part of me.  Once i wriggled my legs out i was surprised that i managed to pick it up on my own!

Damn lucky. That's a heavy bike.
It is easy to lift once its down which is surprising. The key is to have your back to the bike and then lift with a straight back. Fortunately I've only had to do that once.

Yes, i was very fortunate to get through this with no damage to man or machine!

As for lifting it, I faced the bike, LH on bar, RH on grab rail, bent knees, straight back  (good old manual handling training at work!) and up it came. As soon as i could i got my hip wedged against the bike and then inched it up slowly, and as it was on very tiny slope as soon as i could i got my RH over to the brake lever!

A not to be repeated incident  (I hope)

I have dropped my Honda VFR twice and couldn't pick it back up... Was to heavy for me.. I would be gutted to drop the GTR
