Not the post I want to be writing.

Yesterday I was involved in accident in Bradford (Bradford gets it revenge for me calling it Bradistan!).

Car pulled out of a side road and I went into the side. Fortunately it wasn't at speed but the bike went down. Somehow I managed to get off the bike before it went down. My wrist and back seem to have taken the impact and are extremely sore today.

The bike doesn't look too damaged, however the forks are bent. I doubt replacing the front end plus forks will be cheap, so I don't expect the bike to be repairable. The R&G crash protectors did their job, and the rear pannier was slightly scraped. The front however ...

Neither do I expect to be back on a bike for a while. Whilst not a serious accident, it has made me think about the young family I have and the consequences of the bread winner not being about.

so sorry to hear that and glad you are not badly hurt, im sure every down'd rider initially wants to get out of biking after such and incident, but most jump back on the horse. Maybe just using a bike for pleasure rather than commuting may lower your risks. We only really use our bike on nice sundays!

Trotters

So sorry to hear of your "off" Asif. The main thing is you don't sound to be to badly hurt. Understand how you feel about the dangers etc, only you can decide on how you feel about geting back on two wheels. Hope your feeling less damaged asap & that your claim against the car driver goes without any problems.

All the best.

Asif, the one thing you have to remember is that it was not your fault, you were riding correctly and they were the guilty party.

I had this a few years ago when I was taken out by a youngster and seeing my daughter in tears with her dad in an ambulance I also said I had better stop, it lasted about six months before I got another bike, even having two plates and ten screws in a hip I still ride, life is for living to the full and we both like riding bikes.

Chin up young man.

Asif, Been there and sympathise. But remember you can get injured crossing the road, in the car or even in your home.
(I am told more people get killed and injured doing DIY than any biking)

You are right to consider the family, and I expect they will not want you to get back riding again, but see how a few weeks change your views. The most important thing is for you to get recovered and of secondary importance after your 'repairs' is to get the bike fixed.
But I hope you and the bike are back up and running soon.

Get well soon mate.

sorry to hear about this asif.. main thing is your ok, if the forks are bent with quite a bit of cosmetic damaged. it's likely it will be wrote off  if you decide to get another bike will it be another gtr1400?
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Lonewolf

Asif, first impressions are that it doesn't look too bad but it's what you cant see thats a concern. As we've all said, you are alive, albeit with a few areas of discomfort which will ease over the next few days/weeks.

It's every bikers worse nightmare, a car pulling out from a junction after not seeing/looking properly. Six lights on the front of the GTR and a high viz vest, you have to ask, why did they not see you? How did they not see you?

The positive thing is that you had the Police attend and that the other party was insured. Small consolation I know but there are so many drivers in Bradford, especially that part of Bradford who are un-insured. Thats a statistical fact.

I'm sure your'e confidence will bounce back and you'll be back on two wheels soon, but at the same time I respect and fully understand your concerns for your family. Just dont rush into any decisions, we all want you back on two GTR wheels asap.

Keep your spirits up, Steve

Really sorry to read this mate. Glad you are relatively ok.

Asif, so sorry to hear of your mishap. Did it happen whilst you were on your way home after leaving us?. As others have stated you sometimes think, and say things in the heat of the moment, that when you sit and reflect on what has happened after a few days have passed, things may not seem as bad. Good news is you were not injured to badly, your bumps and bruises will  fade, and life will seem much rosier. just remember mate that you could have hurt yourself far more by tripping over a kids toy, or doing an odd job around the house. As you say they will probably write your bike off, so best to start saving now for the new GREEN one. Hope you get fit soon.
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

BigAlan

Asif, if the insurance co do decide its not worth reparing you could either buy it back and do it yourself as you know the history or remove all the saleable parts and put the originals back on and either install on another one or sell them for cash.

and dont get a green one, you know the black is the best  :mfr_lol:

Also what colour was rear gunners bike for a lot of the day ??? (GREEN    )   :mfr_lol:

Asif, I'm sorry to hear about your accident, there are some real dozy pillocks on the road, some of them shouldn't be let loose with a wheelbarrow never mind a car.

As others have said the bike may well be written off if the repair costs exceed the market/realisable value of the bike, in which case get your bits off it.

Thankfully you are not badly hurt, and I fully understand that its made you think about riding a bike, but when you consider that you've done 50.000 miles on it with no problems its one of those things, and it wasn't your fault

I'm glad you're relatively unscathed, and I know that you'll make the right decision mate.

BTW it was real good to see you and ride out yesterday
BE KIND...

Asif ... just back from work and onto the Forum after a few days away ... the first thread I read is this one !

So glad that you are ok, all be it a bit sore ... remember as others have said that the bike can be sorted or mended or replaced or whatever but you can't and so long as you are on the mend safe and well then that is the no 1 priority.

Your confidence in riding will return, I have no doubt ... you didn't spend all that money on Rukka kit just to get rid of it after a few weeks !

Keep us posted on the incident and Ins updates etc .

zedmeister

Sorry to here of your off, the main thing is you ar ok, the insurance will sort the bike either way, take your time and think wisely.
get a grip and deal with it
