My GTR finally hit 50k miles today. Its been a happy 50k (of which I've done over 40k). The major issues I would say have been the display going (not heard of another GTR doing this, so a one off), the infamous warped disc issue, the screen mounting bracket snapping, that radiator leak (nothing to do with Kawasaki) and the TPS sensors. All of which were dealt with by Kawasaki except for the radiator which I guess was just unlucky.

However, I would still buy this bike again and again. For a big bike (I hesitate to say heavy because IMO it isn't), it is an absolute joy to ride. You want to cruise on the motorway? This bike will do it all day. You want to put to shame sports bikes on the twisties? This bike will do it. It really is the best bike I've had and I'm glad I made the change from adventure tourer to sports tourer. Of course it helps if you have the fastest colour (black).

As a celebration I might even treat the bike to a wash.

Glad to hear you have reached such a landmark in one piece ! See you at the weekend.

It should be nicely run in now then. These engines given lots of clean oil, and filters should go to the moon. It would be nice to see it with it's mileage doubled in three or four years time, but you will probably have changed it by then for a green one.
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

thats a great report to hear, personaly ive never done anymore than 20k on one bike, I always tend to change them after 3 years and ive never used a bike for commuting

Essex Boy

Kwikasfuki you never mentioned that it does all of the above and doesn't return a bad mpg figure either. This afternoon (excluding the stopstart drive through the city) I zero'd the mpg average counter at Stratford and drove on the M11, M25, A12 and along country roads to home. Didn't do more than 80, didn't do less than 60, overtook, undertook ( ), played with the juggernauts and still got 68.6mph.
Not bad from a 1400 heavyweight sports tourer !

thats a fair point on mpg, we are currently on tour in Czech and austria two up  and fully loaded ( err haridryer straightners shoes handbags ect ect ) we were averaging 61 mpg since we left the uk, now we are  starting up the alps its dropped to 58 mpg, which is amazing for such a big bike. Did this trip last time on my zzr1200 and was getting early 40's.

O.C.

Its good to hear some positive noises about the fantastic GTR

Well done Asif, me too I could not be more pleased with this bike, my dealer keeps asking me to trade it in. I would not do it, my wife thinks it is ridiculous, but I am emotionally attached to it...go figure !

Not to worry dood, some of us get more attached to our bikes than others, for me i'd sell a kidney before i'd sell my Tuono  :gunsmilie:

Mine is called "Vivian"  and she still floats my boat.  :innocent: :punk:
Ella says it's spelt Vyvyan and she's a he and has more in common with Ade Edmundsen's character in the Young Ones.
To be fair Ella's part in riding involves hanging on for dear life.  :hammer:
