Hi all one of the guys from my IAM group is orgainising a (NON IAM) mates tour of the North. He is basing it on the recent tour as reported in ride mag. PROVISIONAL plan is :

DAY 1
Baldock start, 100 miles to Lincoln for lunch, then 125 miles to Whitby for overnight stay. Total 5 hours riding approx. Highlights – Lincolnshire Wolds.
DAY 2
110 miles from Whitby to Hawes for lunch in Yorkshire Dales, 90 miles to overnight stop near Penrith (Lake District) pm. Total 5 hours riding approx. Highlights – "some legendary riding" says Ride, North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales. Teesdale.
DAY 3
115 miles touring the Lakes passes, Honister, Wrynose, Hardknott, then lunch by Coniston Water. In the afternoon it is 110 miles around Ulveston, Newby Bridge, Windermere, Ullswater, Kendal and back into Peak District to stay at Hawes overnight. Total 6 hours riding approx. Highlights – Lakeside roads
DAY 4
Southwards via Holmfirth in Peak District, 110 miles to Woolley Bridge lunch stop. Then zig-zag through the Peaks down to Ashbourne, then the dull bit on the M1 down to Newport Pagnall services to end the ride, 150 miles total. Total 6 hours riding then your journey from Newport Pagnall. Highlights – Holm Moss, Snake Pass, Hope Valley.

At the mo I am one of only 4 very interested in this. So I mentioned to him that I could post here to see if theres any interest. He was a 'tad' reluctant - cos on our (Herts & Beds Advanced M/cyclist's) trip to Germany last year, we had a 'last minute replacement who nobody knew and although he had 'passed the test' - he was a friggin nighmare and nearly killed one of our senior members with a (very) high speed off!!!
Anyway - I digress, when I mentioned that there are lots of coppers/IAM & OR ROSPA/senior cit's /old farts on this forum, he 'relented' and said maybe a few of them might be intrested......
So, toe in the water, anyone up for this?
Oh yeah, origianlly he suggested last week June - but I persuaded him to change  cos of our Cotsolds meet :-)
So, at the mo it looks 'highly likley' that it will be 2nd wk of July. Prob Mon to fri.
Ps - any of you (too numerous) Northerners who have any recomendations for diff /better routes stops please shout.

Oh yeah and finally - I am NOT gonna finsih the trip with a blat southbound on M1, so any scenic suggestions for a bimble gratefully accepted!!
I came, I saw, I rode off....

I can only stick my toe in the water middle of next week when I get back to work and check the duties .... like everyone here it 's dependent on so many things. I am certainly interested but it is purely down to time and work ... will let you know Y or N next week. Sounds like a good few days.

O.C.

There's every chance that I may join in for the Lakes section....please let us have dates when the run is finalised

BTW, I'm sure I'm correct in saying  Holmfirth aint in the Peak District

When you mentioned "Old farts" my ears pricked up due to the fact that!!!!! erm!!!!!! I am one  I could be tempted to "Av it" with you and your crew for at least two of the days. One thing for sure you will not be disappointed with the roads, or scenery in the Dales and Lakes legs of the trip. Forgive me for saying so but It may need tweaking slightly from what the magazine did, so as to get the full impact of what a fantastic part of the world this is for riding a motorcycle. Please debate.
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

As a soft S.B. who idea of riding north was southern Norway and south was Corsica, I would love to join you in the proper north!

Contingent, of course, on being back in the saddle and that saddle being a 1400GTR  (I suppose lesser bikes would not be welcome). It also occurs to me that this would be a great insentive to get off my festering buttocks  :asshole: and get on with doing a IAM course.

Lottie, my little dog, has already passed her IAMs biscuit test  :cheesy:
Just because many do it does not make it right. Just because many think it does not make it true.

Called in last night for overtime, which just goes to show you how "fluid" one has to be, and checked the duties ... the answer is"Non" ... it would appear the entire universe is taking leave in the weeks immediately before and after the Olympics and there is no space for sod all I am afraid. Sorry. That would be a great domestic tour with lovely scenery.
