I've just spent 2 days travelling for work (in the car for my sins).
Went up to Burnley on Tuesday, spent the night in the Burnley TravelLodge (what a  :shit:hole, never again), then to a customers in Burnley. Left there at 16:30 and took the route Todmorden to Hebden Bridge to Sowerby Bridge to Elland and onto the M62 towards Leeds. Passed through over 5 separate sets of roadworks not including the  ones on the M62.
Was nice to drive through the countryside but got VERY bored of sitting in traffic queues.
Jeez, it's worse than it is down here in the overcrowded South.
Next time I'm bringing a 

Took the M1 down to Derby (decent Holiday Inn Express @ East Midlands Airport), customer in Loughborough on Thurs and then home.

On the plus side, they do seem to be better drivers up there. Only got cut up once in 2 days.
Coming back into Essex, got cut up at the A11/M11 junction, again at Stansted, again in Chelmsford and twice between there and home. Drivers here are

  i have the pleasure ( used loosley) of driving 27mile just for the privelidge of working near Burnley ( junction 5 on M65) and the whole area is  hole. would rather live down south than live there ......... mmmmmm actually i may think a bit more about that statement

Boomer, welcome to 'My Patch'. You took a long way round from Tod to get onto the motorway. 
Tod to Halifax is a chore at the best of times even when the roads are clear never mind in the early evening. People are generally well behaved in Halifax cause they never know when I'm working or not, I never stood for any nonsense on the roads and many a soul fell foul due to their stupidity and ridiculous antics and ended up going away with a 'certificate' to remind them of their visit to Calderdale.
