Most years about 18 of us go to a place called bikers loft Www.grd.be where you keep your bike inside the hotel, we usually go for a weekend and have a couple of ride outs then either stay in the bar or hop out to Ostend to a club.

This year things have progressed, usual weekend at bikers loft then on the Sunday across Germany to Dortmund, then the next day to Colditz castle for a couple of days, the return journey will either take us up north to Hamburg then back down to bikers loft for the weekend again or back to visit some of the famous dam's we manged to bust during the war.

Either way it's going to be fun doing all those miles on the GTR.

For those tempted to look at the web site I can say it might look basic but it's a great place for friendly bikers to meet up, and some of the trips into Holland are good.

interesting how do we get an invite ::) and how many can go :)
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

BigAlan

Well currently we have booked 12 in total this year, of which 6 are doing the German bit, this is a lower number than usual because we are going at Easter and the bookings were made a month ago.

There is no reason if anyone else wants to go they can book up themselves, we're off on the 6th April from Dover and back on the 14th.

The biggest trip to bikers loft we did was 24, and the year before last there was a good band on a Saturday night so we "raced" down Saturday morning and back Sunday.

All good fun.

Hi BigAlan,

How much is the hotel?  I tried having a look but it only gives prices for group bookings.  Love to join ya if I can make it.
A friend in need....Is a pain in the a**

I have no idea what the hotel bill is, we always book through a mate of ours and put all the beer and food on a tab, he pays the lot and we spilit it around how many there is of us, i have never taken notice.

I do know were staying in some decent hotels across Germany tho.

I've stayed at the GRD a great many times since the mid 90's.

One person in a double or twin room will cost you €58 per night including breakfast.
Two people sharing a double or twin will cost €39 each including breakfast.
Other meals are a self-cook whenever you want style that is simple and not too pricey and the food is pretty good.
Rooms are basic but comfortable. Showers & toilets are communal. Motorcycles are parked indoors.

The music is a decent mix of rock, reggae, and blues and the beer is the best in the world. (Try a Rochefort 8)
On non-live music nights there are sofas and armchairs on the stage area.
For me the only negative was the ****ing smoking ban.
No smoking anywhere in the building now, but Ivan does have a nice little hut with a brazier out the front for those of us with the vice.

If you ever get there tell Ivan that "Boomer" says "Hi" and I'll be back as soon as my finances permit.
