the problem with panniers coming off when they have been secured properly , is that isolated to pre 2010 models, did they upgrade the clips, ive tried to wrench mine off , and its possible but id end up breaking something, they do feel secure.
I was considering fabricating some sort of clip or even adding a cable tie somewhere on long hauls

?

I'm sure they upgraded the catchers that hook to the hinge on the bike. mine's the 2010 model and they seem secure enough to me! it would be nice to know if any 2010 onwards models lost there panniers during riding. I'm sure someone will advise us on this query :)
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

ive read on another forum about the '10 models panniers with the orange tabs better put still can be pryed off with minimal force.

Im going to do the Mvelario mod which is a small hole drilled through the tabs from the inside and an allen key fed through latching onto an adhesive magnet, got the magnets off ebay for £2 for 12

some pics when you done it please! I asume the panniers would be just as easy to remove as intended by Mr kawasaki. to be honest, can't see the panniers coming off if attached correctly when riding, are you doing this so there not so easy to be forced off!

There are some clips available on eBay from the good old USA but there about £18 inc postage, I would also be interested in this fix just form price of mind.

On the pre 2010 models the original clips were red but after the recall they were exchanged to orange. I've never experienced any problems with mine, I'm not saying that if I was very determined I couldn't rag them off but why wound I want to do that? In normal riding conditions they have NEVER given me cause for concern.

This is interesting.  When my 2011 bike fell over on the ferry last month the right pannier detatched itself. I refitted it for the trip home and it seemed solid on the bike. No marks on the mounting lugs and the handle was still in the locked position . I can only imagine something flexed on impact.
Should have the bike back this week and the ferry company is picking up the £5,000 repair bill. (incl.a new Schubert C3)

This is how they can be removed when locked

Im going to do this Mod in the week, so hang fire buying those clips from the usa . MGvalerios fix is unbelievably simple, cheap and effective. and cant be seen from the outside . just waiting for the magnets to come

my orange tab pannier , can be lifted off the rear hook and if i used a bit more force would easily come off but possibly damage the catch, even if you think the pannier would not bounce off  the extra security benefit would make this mod worthwhile

A new pannier and lock mechanism is over a £1000 and you may need an additional lock for the other pannier so add another £300 ?

wiltsguy

New lock £229 + VAT , so I'm using the one off the old pannier .

How are you going to do that if somebody ripped off your luggage?
Even though I reckon the chances of that are pretty slim. :-\
OTOH I can't see the panniers falling off while riding.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.
