On a stock bike, the secondary throttle bodies (computer controlled) only open up at 4K rpm, the cams come alive at 6K rpm, and ram air takes effect only at extra-legal highway speeds. So at lower speeds the bike feels comparatively tame. Nevertheless many find the stock set-up more than adequate.

However, additional power can be easily tapped.  Perhaps the biggest bang for the buck is reflashing the  ECU  (Guhl motors, et al -- opens the secondaries much sooner, big improvement at lower RPMs) and combining that with an aftermarket slip-on exhaust.   More ambitious  (and expensive) modifications include taking the secondaries out completely, splicing in piggy back EFI modules (Power Commander V), and replacing the entire exhaust system with ZX14 headers and dual exhausts.
