The Dark Side / Auf Wiedersehen GTR
April 20, 2018, 10:05:05 AM
Finally had to let her go , my second GTR 1400. One of the best sports touring machines ever. Unfortunately time arthritis and acquiring a DVT means I'm more comfortable on an upright bike. I was going to keep the Versys 1000 but the practicality (and shaft drive) of the Bavarian Tractor Panzer  plus a damn good trade in offer enticed me over to the darkness.

I might be on a GS now but I'll always have fond memories of the machine and appreciative of the 'educated responses' from our esteemed forum members, and the great advice to questions.

Been a great few years, I'll leave a virtual tab open at the bar to say good bye. Safe rides and happy miles

The Market / Re: Touring Seat Required

Hello Halfpipe.

I am letting my GTR go and have a Top Sellerie seat available only done about a 1000 miles so like new. Currently you are looking at around £350 for a new one at todays exchange rate, if you're interested I'm looking for £200 plus postage. These seats make all the difference to the ride. My regular pillion vouches for them as well. PM me if interested. Cheers Cloudwalker

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Stolen Panniers
February 25, 2018, 12:37:52 PM
Thanks Guys. Interesting Lonewolf that it is a well known flaw in the design. On the plus side I've emailed Kawasaki UK to let them know of the theft and have asked them to alert their dealer network in case someone should come in looking to repair their vandalised case. The real sickener is that to replace them and have to have seperate keys will cost over £1500 (£500 a carcass and £250 + VAT) If I have the locks on the bike including the starter switch replaced it's over £3000. I'm waiting for my insurers to come back to me after I put in the estimate from Orwells in Ipswich.

I'd urge everyone to be vigilent now I've found out the costs. When I see 'brand new' panniers on e bay minus the lock fitting being sold for £150 I have to ask what genuine seller would sell for that much under half price

1400GTR Discussion / Stolen Panniers
February 23, 2018, 08:35:03 PM
Not sure where to post this, if admin thinks it needs moving please do. I had the panniers stolen from my GTR this lunchtime. They're the (light) blue finish on my 2016 bike. They were empty apart from my old Triumph Trophy inner bags inside them. The bike was left in Walton Felixstowe for 15 minutes whilst  I popped into Walton barbers for a haircut. Anyone who knows me would understand why it never takes long to buzz cut my (few) remaining hairs

What's sickening is that the panniers can only fit one type of machine. My gut feeling is that someone's had an off and will try and fit their locks from their panniers into my unblemished ones.

To replace them and the locks on my bike to restore it to a single key fits all is going to cost me £3k! Checked flea bay and Gumtree already. Feel free to PM me if you hear anything.

Thanks Guys

Steve

Hi Andy, It's still waiting to be sold at Orwells', or it was this morning. Might be worth giving them a call.

Check out Orwell motorcycles in Ipswich. Rather fetching black model with around 13k on the clock. Sorry didn't look at the price as I was out on mine and definitely not looking to part with it. They deliver as well and are currently buying in stock so part exchange would be available. Good luck with the search, when you find one you won't regret it.

Definitely not one on my bucket list. The H2 was fine for what it is but this is never going to replace the GTR. Can't figure out why they've done it, looks more like a hyped up Z1000SX replacement than a GTR replacement

The Market / Re: Front Foot Pegs, Lowering kit.
October 30, 2017, 07:16:52 PM
Hi Geoff, might well be interested as I'm 6ft 3ins with 33 ins inside leg so could do with that little bit extra room. I enjoy the GTR but notice the lack of leg room when I swap over from my Versys1k. Where about are you in Norfolk? I'm down in Ipswich but often up in Nelsons country so any excuse to get out for a bimble up there. In fact I'm up near Norwich on Sunday on a breakfast run if you are any where near there and have received the lowering kits. Cheers Steve

Hmm, might try that with the GoPro Mike. They have curved sticky bases that might adhere, think I'll put a  lanyard on as well for safety.

I was surprised at how the bike has evolved, although I've been away for a year the previous bike was 3 or 4 years old when I let it go. Every thing feels so much smoother, feed back from the tyres/suspension excellent, looking forward to racking up the miles again

Well after a year with the Trophy had to admit there's nothing as good as the GTR. Picked up an ex demo with 600 miles on the clock today. Riding it back couldn't believe how excellent the bike felt. Just eased its way through the bends, no effort required. After a year with the Trophy (     ) I've got shoulders like Arnies' after having to muscle it round all the time. Sanity restored without the meds

Possibly a fraction narrower at the front compared to the standard seat. Being 6' 3'' not normally a problem. Swapped the GTR for a Trophy 1200, gives me a bit more leg room for touring. Didn't want to go (back to) the 'adventure' route at the moment. The TS seat is extremely comfortable and my pillion rated it highly, she even dropped off to sleep on it!

Sadly let the GTR go and have a few bits left. Top Sellerie seat in excellent condition £145, includes postage, Calci large touring screen (used once) as new £95 includes postage, MRA low screen (my favourite) £55 includes postage. Will discount if collected. PM for further information. I'm in Ipswich. Would post pics but can't attach them. Happy to send to interested parties phones.

Totally agree about comfort and my pillion loves it. Honestly didn't realise that you could get a heated version

Orwell Motorcycles in Ipswich have a metallic grey for sale. It's the previous model without the letter box in the screen. Discounted at 12500ish as its not the current model. Obviously my favourite colour as same as mine. They also have a low mileage 13 plate black one in at around 9500
