1400GTR Discussion / Re: New GTR
October 11, 2017, 11:48:26 AM
Kawasaki Supercharged sport tourer... This might pull me out of the BMW darkness and into the green latern light again.

By Nov 7th I will know if Brunhilde will be traded for a Thundernugget mk II.

As the little jedi master once said: "Ride green you will, young Skywalker".

If Johan can be a lot more competitive in his pricing then it'll be a popular product I suspect.
The alternative is as follows but it's too expensive for me!
http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk/collections/kawasaki-all-products/products/luggage-rack-for-kawasaki-gtr1400

Pretty sure I can beat that with some margin, but can't be specific before im further in the design.
The plate that I have made for BMW R1200RS will sell for 138 EURO incl. the adapter for GIVI Monokey top box attachment.
That design is pretty complex, I belive that the GTR one will be easier to manufacture. some picture of the final R1200RS product.

It all comes down to complexity of the design and the amount of machining involved.
I will try to find another swedish GTR1400 owner that can serve as test-jigg.

That looks extremely interesting.
I was considering one of the type that Phil's Farkels do.
Your prototype look like something similar and I'd be interested in one when you have them up and running.
Can you be a bit more specific with the info that you need.
Hi.
The space between the 4 screws that bolts the luggage rack to the bike. (the measurements with questionmarks on the drawing).

I will make a prototype in a 3D printer to test out correct position of box etc.

Not a GTR rider anymore (sold my black one 1 year ago) and transformed to the dark side (BMW that is).
As there wasn't any good top box fastening option avaliable for my R1200RS I designed my own and had 6 unit manufactured. The response among fellow RS-riders were pretty good so I have made 2 dozen more and plan for more.

I would like to manufacture a adapterplate to accomodate GIVI monokey top box for the GTR as well and have started working on a design.

Can someone help me with the measurement of the 4 fastening holes? (see drawing)

Most grateful for any help.

But remember one thing .....
Its a Japanese bike and .....

It WON'T break down  :mfr_lol:

So true. When 3rd world war hits the earth the only thing left will be cockroaches and GSX-R engines. Got to have a backup for the German lady. A friend got a 2 year old BMW S1000R, and he changed the starter button (complete right electrical cluster ) 3 times. Now he's finaly learned that he got to put on plastic bags over the handles when cleaning the bike..... I do that as well on my beemer as a precaution.

It just happened. I got me an old suzuki GSX-R 1100 90 in yoshimura Black and red. Not perfect, but in pretty good original condition. Roars, Shakes and smells like gun powder. :2guns: It's Jabberwocky...
The plan is to have it like a long term renovation project as there isn't much to do on the Beemer during cold dark winter days.

As for the RS, we had a nice tour to Tuscany and lake Garda this summer. I rode to Italy where the wife met up in Milan. Got some rain but the sun showed up sometimes as well. As a touring bike it holds its own. Comfy seat, cruise control, low frequency rumble and a MRA vario screen that worked realy good. 1000 km/day was no problem. BUT,,, I realy missed the extra power that the GTR could show up on autobahn. Much lower pace with Brunhilde than the mighty GTR. (maybe thats a good thing after all...)

The BMW OEM top box is way to expensive and small so i wanted a GIVI V47 instead. As the GIVI adapterplate is pretty ugly and places the box way to much forward I designed my own plate and had a small prototype serie manufactured. Got good feedback from the RS forum so now I have produced a batch of 24 plates that I have for sale. Will post separately about those as I intend to make one for the GTR1400 as well.
Started a company to deal with the motorcycle parts: Ulfberht components.

No major update on the GTR for 17 so Ill stick with the Beemer another year.
Maybe we will finaly take a trip over to your beautiful island this coming summer.

Better book that annual leave and run it in on a trip to join us at The Belfry this June 👍😃

Looks a  :sweet: :scooter:  :mfr_lol:
Would love to come to the Belfry with you guys, Charlie. But work load makes vacation in June a big no-n this year. Maybe me, mrs Bacaruda and Brunhilde (the Beemer-lady) takes a tour to Brittain in Late July. Just to be sure to get atleast a couple of summer weeks with nice weather.

Thats correct. The BMW OEM panniers cost me 750 EURO extra, And they arent as big or waterproof as the GTR ones.

But thats the Beemer way: Anything but the handlebar cost extra.

This Tuesday, I took delivery my 2016 Black/grey BMW R1200RS. No keyless, alarm or shift assist pro, but other than that pretty much all options box checked.  Got a Powerbronze screen mounted by the bikestore before delivery. Typical April weather (snowing and below zero temperatures) av hapered my breaking in, but I got 2 evening rides with it and must say, this is a realy nice bike!
Quite a different animal than the GTR-1400, Not near as good wind protection, more forward leaning riding position. I like the analouge meters on the GTR much better than the beemers digital tachometer. But, the R1200R is so much lighter, both to roll around the garage and on the road. stearing is realy sweet, Stable and fast enough for me, so far.The ESA suspension works realy good. Wind protection is descent, but not fantastic. ergonomics works for me but I have to do some longer runs before I know for sure. The water-boxer runs realy unstressed and smoth ( for being a boxer-twin) All in all, it's a fun bike that makes me glad. Saw a black GTR today and I miss my thundernugget. But the RS makes that feeling bearable.

General Discussion / Re: What got you started?
September 30, 2015, 10:05:21 PM
Had a plan even before puberty. Worked during summer holliday since I was 13-14 and saved all the money, got a Yamaha DT125 1980 when i turned 16. drove it home from the dealer without license. Went for a ride to show it to my friends, did a wheelie and flipped over   . All in the first day of ownership. Been hooked ever since (flipper over half a dozen times with that DT before I got the hang of it.)

The invitation stands! GTR-riders are allways welcome if they are foolish enough to come to our cold and deserted part of the planet. I will come back to the good side of the force for sure, just have to try out the dark side (wich is lacking a bit on the RS compare to a GTR, 125 hp...  :sleep1:) I will keep you posted as soon as she arrives to me, planned to w14 is the last information from BMW.

So after 2 years almost to the day and almost 30.000 km I parted from the black thundernugget. He will be missed. but i can assure, I will be back on a Kawasaki big tourer in a couple of years as soon as they decide to make a major rewamp of this superb motorcycle. Meanwhile i will try out how it is to own a german Valkyrie in the form of a 2016 BMW R1200RS. Ordered it today for delivery in march 2016. First spanking new bike in 28 years. Got a fair trade-in price on my GTR, and a good discount on the Beemer as my buddy brought a R1200R at the same time.
I will keep looking into this forum time to time and keep up to date with what your up to. Last summers trip to Littledean and the GTR uk meet gave me some realy nice memories. Thanks all who were there for a unforgetable weekend. Who knows. me and Brunhilde might show up on a GTR-meeting close to you..
