Thanx for the advice.

Sadly it wasn't a simple job all the lot had to come off. The shaft was seized in the diff due to water ingress which caused a massive build up of rust. Shaft eventually came away from diff with the aid of a big compressor and air tools. Fortunately shaft cleaned up and no damage to it. Diff had to be rebuilt. All back together now and working as it should.

Many thanx to Bob at Wheelton Motorcycles Chorley for his help, saved me a fortune. Main dealer was quoting £3,000 to repair it. All done for £300 and a case of beer.
Wont be taking a jet wash anywhere near it in future. It will now be checked every service and re greased.

Be warned jet wash at BAD IDEA. Bucket and sponge in future for me.

Hi. thanx for the info.

I think you may have not understood what I was asking or I didn't explain the problem properly.
The rear wheel is off .When i removed the top bolt from the torsion arm the diff should be able to swing down of the shaft at the rear. That's my understanding. The problem I have is that the diff will not do this it won't swing down because it's stuck on the shaft.
Doe's it need some gentle help with the old rubber hammer to release if from the shaft or is it held on the shaft by some other means.
Once I have it off I can change the o ring oil seal that located between the rear shaft splines and the u/j coupling. I fully intend to remove it from both ends and grease everything up.
I've had the bike since 2013, the bike is a 2010 model with 18,000 miles on it. It would appear that the shaft splines have never been greased since the bike was built. I've never done it and I don't think the main dealer has when its been serviced.

1400GTR Discussion / Rear Diff oil leak.
May 19, 2016, 12:27:43 PM
 Hi guys help needed.
Took bike for Mot Monday passed all well. Or so I thought, when I arrived home noticed oil dripping from diff where the rubber boot on shaft housing joins rear Diff. Had a look on the kawa parts diagram and there appears to be an o ring on the shaft where it goes into the diff and an oil seal in the diff itself. Thought I would drop the Diff and change the seal and o ring. My problem is that when all the bolts are removed to remove the Diff from the bike it wont budge off the shaft it's solid shaft turns in diff fine and there was no knocking noises from it.. Anybody else had this problem.
Am I missing something that's still holding the shaft in the Diff. Don't want to start giving it some wellie with the rubber hammer just yet. Cant see anything on the parts diagram that would suggest I've missed something.
Off to the TT in June so need to get this sorted.

General Discussion / Re: gear indicator
March 02, 2015, 01:33:54 PM
Had the same problem with mine. it was showing false neutrals and not displaying the correct gear engaged. After checking all the wiring for any breaks ended up purchasing a new sensor from local Kawasaki dealer in Bolton. Cost £105 came with two new internal metal rods and springs. Bike out of warranty, dealer wanted to charge a days labour to fit as the nearside fairing panel has to be removed to access the wiring. Saved that cost and replaced it myself easy job to do if you take your time with it. Problem sorted .

Bought mine from Skidmarx around 18 months ago came with all fittings. Great quality hugger for the money fitted in minutes perfect fit no alterations needed. Keeps all the crap of the rear shock and rectifier. Paid £90 when purchased money well spent in my opinion.  We all could do with the odd bargin but remember cheapest isn't always best. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately sensor was knackered. Had to replace it. Lined dealer's pocket with another 100 quid. Didn't want to chance a second hand sensor. All sorted now.

Thanx for the replies.

Cheers for the wiring diagram martin. Now I know where the gear position sensor is i'll get the old spanners out. I think I will probably have to change the sensor.

1400GTR Discussion / Neutral light sensor
February 21, 2014, 09:34:34 AM
I've had a problem over the last couple of days with the neutral light flashing on and off when the engine is running. When I pull onto my drive at home and kick the side stand down with the bike in neutral the engine cuts and wont start again until the side stand is up.
I know this is a safety feature for when the bike is in gear but its happening in neutral also.
Has anybody had a similar problem. Not sure if its down to a faulty side stand switch or if there is a separate neutral sensor on the bike.
Does anybody know if there is a separate neutral sensor and if so where it is.

Thanx.

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Re: Pannier brackets
August 14, 2013, 10:26:45 AM
Thanx for the response.  Had a look at the brackets on e bay. They appear to be what I've heard about. Will purchase a pair and see how I get on.
Don't fancy having then come off. Surprised Kawasaki didn't do a recall for this problem and sort it. It appears from the comments on Forums and the videos on you tube that this is a design flaw.

Other than this problem I cant fault the bike one little bit its just brilliant. Hope to get some serious miles done in Europe this September. Any suggestions on routes appreciated was think about a trip down to the italian lakes.

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Pannier brackets
August 12, 2013, 10:49:12 AM
The panniers on my bike seen to have some upward movement on the rear most hanger both sides. I heard somewhere that there is a mod to solve this ( a bracket that can be fitted over the hangers when the panniers are in place. ) Been searching the forums and cant find anything relating to this mod other than a comment on the zx forum . com from a fellow gtr owner out In Oz. there is a link on his comment for a pannier bracket on e bay but sadly the link doesn't work and a search of e bay hasn't come up with anything.

Anybody heard of this bracket or got one fitted.

Has anybody fitted the Beowulf Rad guard.  Had a look at one on their web site £53 earth pounds. it appears too only hook over the top lip of the rad and fasten with one bolt at the bottom.
Just wondered if anyone has one fitted and how secure it is.  Any advice ????.
