To my mind bike idle a little rough, nothing terribly noticeable, but doesn't sound quite right to me

Is there any way to tell? Diagnose? Ecu and/or DFI fault or is a case of the dealer diagnostics

Had thought about reg/rec previously but battery was changed last year and battery holds its charge fine

Big Alan, would love to go the power commander route, but right now too costly - plus I think there is and underlying problem, agree on the ht lead tracking but even with panel off there isn't enough visibility to tell

Viper - clocks checked and set correctly :-).... Fuel light flashes normally around 140

My current thoughts are electrical rather than mechanical, but the misfire worries me when under load

Bout 800 miles ago....problem preceeds new plugs and still continues...

1400GTR Discussion / Long Time, no Post - Help needed
February 03, 2013, 12:21:05 PM
OK, so before anyone says anything, its been a long long time since i've posted on here. Sorry chaps but been caught up with other things  :embarrassed:

Anyway to make it worse, is the reason for my resurgence, is basically i need help with the GTR (2009 model). something is not right, but i'm stuffed if i can track it down!

About 4 months ago, i noticed an increase in fuel consumption, my ave had dropped from 44 mpg to roughly 36mpg which is a huge amount, even now on motorway runs i am only managing 42mpg which just ain't right. My concern is something is going on with the engine, but i just can't seem to find the fault

To ensure my numbers are right, i have swapped back the OEM pipe for the last 1000 miles, have had a full service done including valve clearances  (bike now has 25k on the clock) and all HT leads checked... and before any one says anything, nope i have not put on weight  :undecided:

anecdotally i can now hear the occasional misfire normally in 2nd shortly after i have shifted up from 1st, and there is load on the engine?....and another thing (possibly unrelated), i have replaced 3 tail light bulbs in the last 12 months, although that being said the bike is kept outside under cover and therefore is subjected to reasonably cold night time temps

I have run out of ideas of where to look next?...can anyone offer any thoughts on possible causes/solutions...... i would of course love to take back to local Kwack dealer for diagnostics, but have sadly been redundant and need to watch the pennies, so a DIY solution is preferable before i get striped by the dealer fault finding?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

When it comes to route planning......especially for the TomTom ... google 'TYRE' (trace your route everywhere)...its a free piece of software that is designed for bikers...much much better than Garmin Mapsource or Basecamp...and fills the void for TomTom users like me. It uses google maps as its base package and from there you can convert to both Garmin and TomTom format....awesome, quick, intuative and up to date maps...bonus

You have to get to grips with it, which can be a little fiddly however stick with it, its worth the effort is route plannign is your thing, and once you know how to use it, its a doddle ;D

already sorted...going to routemaster i think.......if anything changes i'll lety ya'all know

i'll try and get a picture, it'll need a new template i think as the spacing is well out........as an aside i've just fitted a new flowrider screen this afternoon...reckon it might foul on the guards......it'll need some head scrating me think!

Mine have arrived...sadly they 2 mounting points dont suit a 2009...bugger (the drop needs about another 30mm, so its 2 big to bridge)

Martin i'll transfer pennies this weekend :o

Maybe a bit far for you but there is always Pegasus Kawasaki the other side of reading, they are not the cheapest, but the mechanic steve is top notch and knows his stuff

i am fitting them to a 2009...i looked at the fitment and guessed they will fit...si i'll bve doing the guinea pigging......personally i reckon they'll be ok...they may just be a winter fitment to take some of the wind/rain of the hands ...... if they dont work, i'll donate them to Routemaster ::)

agreed, tried a few screens, and whist they work OK, haven't yet found one that works well for me (i am currently keeping an eye for a cheap PUIG on fleabay), but i doubt that most (if any) aftermarket screen manufacturers test their kit in a wind tunnel.....(quick some-one get me a computer capable of CFD), also for me running lights (position lights) on the mirrors would be nice..

Have looked at Cruise control, but the pukka units are sooooooo expensive its not pracital (plus need a PHD to fit them)....... bikers are nomadic, and a large percentage of bikers keep their steeds for 3 years or less so anything aftermarket needs to be practical in terms of price and fitting

Not much to ask then?? ::)

Welcome Mattye, same as you (and patrick) another X-CBF owner who voted with my feet (albeit via a Triumph Tiger), and then to the GTR...great choice, great bike ;D
