The Market / Pannier Bags and Screen
February 15, 2017, 04:29:42 PM
I'm having a clear out of my garage and have gt some GTR pannier bags and a brand new screen on eBay.

The auction ends in an hour and they are going for a song:

Now this looks promising and thankyou for the link ... now then ! Does the unit need to be mounted onto metal to create a ground plane ?
How weather proof was it or how did u manage to keep it dry .
WoOKs got an excited tingle going on now

The radio was mounted using Velcro onto the plastic at the front; it's obvious where to put it when you have the unit in your hand.  The aerial has a magnetic base so I stuck it onto an existing antenna plate I had on the bike but you could dismantle it and put it anywhere, stick it onto the pannier locks with the magnet or put a bit of metal tape anywhere to mount it. Aerials don't need a ground plane; they are used for antennas when they transmit.

The box isn't weather proof but it gets nothing when moving and the screen comes down to cover it when stationary. I took it off if I was leaving it outdoors overnight but often forgot and I had it for a couple of years with no problem (although the charging cable got rusty).  You could wrap it in cling film if you prefer.  If you're worried about weather, I have a DAB Highway unit in a waterproof otterbox which you can buy off me, but I'd recommend trying this Halfords one first as the performance was better.

I've tried lots of DAB solutions so let me know if you need any more advice.

Bugga and fanks for trying .. what was the brand and did u recess it into the plastics or how was it mounted .
You may be my sanitys saviour  :mfr_lol:
It was a Sonichi (Halfords brand I think)
http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/dab-car-stereos/sonichi-s100-digital-radio-adaptor

I stuck it with double sided Velcro to the blank bit of the fairing to the left of the clocks.  I powered it from the 12v socket (hard wired it in eventually with a mini USB), ran the aerial to a bracket on the back I already had (but the front would be fine; just needs something metal to stick to (you could use the pannier lock)) and a cable from the line out to the Autocom.

It worked very well indeed :-)

I fitted a DAB radio from Halfords and connected it through my Autocom with an external antenna. It worked a treat with it mounted at the front, the fairing and screen kept 90% of the water off it; had it for 2 years and now transferred to my FJR and still working.  I'll try and add a photo if I can find one :-) P.S. won't let me upload it as it's too big

Sorry guys. The bike has now sold to someone who wanted all of the accessories and paid extra for them so I'm glad I advertised them now.

Sorry to see it go but got a decent price so I'm happy.

If you want to get decent money for your bike Id end this listing and redo the advert with no mention at all of it being an escort bike, remove anything from the bike that relates to its working life and re advertise it as just a plain joe  well looked after bike.

To me it would be like selling a car that's been a taxi .

bigging up its life as an escort bike does not add any value for the purchaser , infact could put some off .

Thanks guys; consistent message. Thanks for the feedback.

I guess I am just too lazy to take it all off but I'd better man up and do it

I'm in agreement with the above comments

For me a bike loaded with that type of accessories would be a negative.

I don't understand that I'm afraid. Which accessories would put you off?

The bike didn't sell so have listed some of the extras as options.

If the buyer doesn't want them included then I will let you know on here for everyone who was interested.  Or you could just buy the complete bike; I need the space in my garage

Easily reminded, you can get bar risers which both lift and pull back nearer to you should you require it, and stick a laminar lip on the top of the screen to deflect the air and away you go.

As someone who is 6' 3" I find the bike perfect for me, I used to change bikes every two years but this one has lasted five and I have no intention of selling it now.

Welcome to the crazy house, you will find out all sorts here which may help your decision.

A word of warning about the risers. I had them fitted on the bike when I got it and I removed them; they do affect the handling.  I would buy a bike without them and see if you get used to it before investing in them.

You could buy one from eBay with a touring screen AND cruise control for a bargain at the moment

I thought people were interested in the bike without some of the extras; I am happy to remove them.

However, I have advertised the bike with all of the extras and the aim is to sell the bike; I'm not going to sell a bit for a couple of hundred quid which could lose me the sale of the bike.

I hope that makes sense and sorry for confusing people.

Thanks for all of your interest. To be clear, I am happy to remove bits at the request of the person buying the bike but not to remove anything before I sell it.

If you want the extra bits, you'll have to buy the bike, remove them yourself and then sell it on; sorry.
