I used a specialist in Newbury who came to the house and did all the panels - nice bloke, good job with no bubbles!

Coman, I love my GTR1400 - only been riding it for a few months - but I keep drooling whenever I see a ZZR - what's your take on the Z - is it a completely different experience, or just a GTR 'with legs'??

Cheers!

Actually, I got a Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsoft's free Anti-Malware) alert - assumed it was a false positive.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics of my recently arrived GTR1400 - I think she is great - I don't remember my old FJ1200 of 20 years ago being so heavy to get on the centre-stand, but then I remember I'm not as strong as I was then!

She was registered June by the dealer, but when I go to ride her on the demo she only had 4 miles on the clock.

Go ahead re pics - no worries re plate.

Will take a look at yours too as will be at the shop in about an hour. What year was your old one?

And will PM you when back on Sun 9th Dec and we'll fix something up. Apparently the weather will be colder but at least more dry over the month ahead!

You're right - it's no coincidence! Picking her up this morning from Daytona Ruislip.

Thanks for that nice info on the risers and Daytona's fitting quality.

When do you get yours?

Great idea re Box Hill / Ace Cafe - back from holidays 10th Dec - will pm you and we'll fix something up.  :biker3:

Working my way through Lee Parks's "Total Control" book - haven't ridden bikes since aged 30 ish (now 54) - amazing how much I didn't / don't know (and obviously, back then, was not taught) about basics of cornering, traction control, suspension set ups etc!

Looking forward to improving my technical riding a lot - that plus great tours and new people is what I hope to get out of returning to biking.

In the old days it was just A to B stuff.

Thanks Mecki - I remember when I called the dealer about this bike he sounded surprised when, in answer to his question of whether I wanted to know the colour (he has three in stock and he couldn't remember offhand the colour of the 'special offer' one I was interested in) I said "not interested!".

Midnight blue it is then!

Hi OC - I really AM colour blind so have not focussed on colours, but I did just speak to the dealer and he said "Candy Blue" - does that sound right?

Cheers!

Thanks Rusty and Old Coney - am based in Ascot UK, getting the bike (new) next week - it's registered to the dealer but there is only 30 on the clock and I did 24 of them (dealer says I am the only test rider on this demo bike) - attractive discount, invested in the Kawa top box and the 2" helirisers and the extended warranty - that's quite a bike / package for the price compared to new FJR1300 / Trophy's and R1200 RT's which were the 'competition'.

I used to ride the old FJ1200 a lot, and recently a test ride on the R1200 RT (very nice, but 'rough' engine compared to the smooth GTR). Felt a little patriotically disloyal going with the GTR1400 rather than the new UK made (or at least assembled) Trophy - but a) the Trophy is so brand new - perhaps best to wait and see - and b) a few grand pricier!

I'm a fair bit colour blind and don't see colours well but I am told my new GTR is red!

Hi guys - I'm new to the forum - live in Ascot Berks - just buying a new one now - hope to get next week - already found this forum a fantastic resource and community - it does give one a lot of confidence before buying such a formidable machine.

Hope to see some of you soon at various events!

Hello to everyone - I'm new here - probably getting a GTR1400 very soon after many years not biking - had my first ride on a new one yesterday. Loved the look and feel. There is a definite 'high build quality' look about it. Slightly lower seat than the R1200RT I test rode last week (or is that just the slightly more forward riding position?). First impressions actually riding the bike;

1. immediately was able to de-focus from the new bike experience and concentrate on the road - that is a good sign I think
2. handles well - confident feel on corners - my dealer assured me the 34 reading on the front tire was correct - I reckon it should have been a bit firmer as there was not enough feedback from the front
3. too much rear brake travel - I hope this can be adjusted
4. to really motor (accelerate) she needs to be above 4000 - I don't think this is a big issue for a relaxed tourer like me - but she is a refined monster above 4000 and sounds like a turbine
5. screen might need to be a bit taller for me (6'2" and 32 inside leg)?
6. perhaps adjust the handlebars a bit?

Loved it - and the new price of 10,499 is a bargain for bike like this!

Advice gratefully received!
