Well I've calmed down a lot since then, but I do feel like I have been done.  My bike was basically new when it went in, and it has been down on its side during their care.

I'm going to make a call to BMW France and tell them what happened.  Let's see what they say.

QuoteOne day whilst exiting a very well known biker meeting place it simply cut out and fell over in the road

I heard a story about the side stand cut-off causing that - even on the bomb proof GSA you can see the two tiny wires going into a switch. It' the only thing not protected by bars on that bike.  There's a 39 Euro guard that'll stop any mud or stones getting in there.  I'm sure you could be a while figuring out why the sodding thing won't start if you sever those wires....

Back to this dealership thing...  There are two relatively near to where I live.  Both have been shyte for one reason or another.

BUT it's an absolutely STORMIN' machine...

General Discussion / French Beamer Dealer Rant....

I apologise in advance for this... but..

On Saturday I took my GSA back to the dealer I bought it from to collect some grab bar grips they promised me they'd chuck in when I bought it 4 months ago.
SO they take my keys and wheel the bike into the workshop and rest it on the sidestand.
The side stand was on the hydraulic ramp, but the rest of the bike wasn't.  You see I presume that this was a car ramp and they can use both sides for a bike each, if you see what I'm getting at.  This means, of course, that both ramps raise at the same time.

Yes - you guessed it.

The guy working on the bike next to mine raised the ramp.  :death:

My bike was literally flipped onto it's side.  :censored:

What actually happened is that it was thrown over, the top case scraped down the door frame and the whole thing just landed in a big heap on the exhaust side.  3 French blokes leapt to try and save it, one crushing his hand in the process (in between the top case and a work surface, I think).

Now once it was hefted back up, the RHS mirror was tightened back up and a finger nail run along the plastic edge to remove the burring, it was actually difficult to find any damage.

The whole bike is surrounded by bars, and the one protecting the engine on the RHS has now got a wear scratch where it has come into contact with the concrete floor.

The top case has a small mark on it that you have to squint to see, and the right foot peg and top case clasp have some slight burring that required a little filing to remove.

So, the French blokes looked at me proudly and said what I can best translate into "Phew that was close - no damage!"

:censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:

That's not the  :censored: point!  You just flipped my 25K EUR bike you  :censored: :asshole: :shit: !!!

They even tried to tell me that it didn't actually touch the floor, and that if there was actually any damage then obviously they would replace the damaged parts.

I'm pretty sure that in the UK the dealership would be falling over themselves to try and make it right.

Here they wouldn't even acknowledge that they had done anything wrong!  Not even a "I'm sorry, Mr. Ros, for dropping your bike - if you find anything wrong with it, do let us know and we'll figure something out".

:censored: :censored: s

I really hate this culture sometimes.  I'm totally furious.

Rant over... for the moment...

:censored: solid bike, mind.... blimey!

Well, my GTR is on sale at the dealer.  He's gonna sell it for 990 EUR more than he paid me for it...

Thats just it, im not being particularly gentle but still keeping it nice and smooth and under 5000 revs, and its just an absolute blast!  This exhaust is a bit excessive though... Earplugs are a necessity for more than a half hour ride. Came back from my lunch time scratch with a headache. This evening, though, was just terrific. Found some new roads just around here and had a ball.

Can't believe I have to go to Italy tomorrow in the car...

Well that's it! No more GTR

15 minutes of paperwork later and I have an R1200GS Adventure.

As with EVERY time I pick up a brand new bike, it was p1ssing down with rain.  But unlike every other brand new bike I have picked up in the rain, this one gave precisely ZERO sh1ts about the road surface.  Even with brand new tyres.

I just stuck it in Rain mode and rode home.  It was actually fun rather than terrifying

So it needs a wash already, and I have to do 700Km by Wednesday 11am so no pictures just yet.  I'll probably take some when I get to the south of France next week and I'm on holiday with it :)

Right now, I need to gently run it in around the mountains.  150km done so far, but I'm away from tomorrow evening until Monday afternoon, so I have to do as much as poss this evening, which starts in about 30 minutes...

It's bloody brilliant - but i need earplugs...

Catch you later :)

Yeah I'll post some pics as soon as I get it.  I think the plan is for Wednesday.

So yesterday i had to go to a BMW car dealership because part of the deal with me getting a new bike was that Wifey gets a new car...

My week became more expensive as i watched her fall in love with this Mini Cooper D Clubman... Yes with Union Jack wing mirrors...  Just cos she teaches English at a bilingual school she thinks this is funny...

Actually its very cute :)

She persuaded me to get the aftermarket UJ on the roof too.

So I think I am BMW finance's new best friend...

Well technically I am still a GTR owner until Wednesday. I love the bike really and will be sad to see it traded in.   I can't complain - I've had 5 years of joy and it's kept half it's original value and contributed itself to the next level of my biking journey. No regrets.

But yeah, this is a GTR forum however I think there are lots of us who have been down the BMW route at some point or another...  It's just taken me a while :)

Cheers

Hi OC :)

Piccies will go up as soon as I take delivery... That'll be on Wednesday then :)

It's a totally new style and type for me and I'm trying not to buy too many BMW accessories... They don't exactly give them away!

I would strongly recommend a go on the latest one - I was literally blown away.

The full Akrawotsit exhaust might be a bit loud for the town though... Good job I live in the middle of nowhere where everyone within hearing distance has loud bikes :)

I had to google Yamaha S10 having never heard of it... Looks like a similar style.  How does it compare to something like the GSA?

Hehe!  Great to hear from you guys!

QuoteWhen do you collect the new GSA?
Next Wednesday!!  Which means I've got precisely NO TIME to ride the GTR....

QuoteIs your new GSA full power or is it restricted?
The bike will be restricted when I pick it up, but the dealer will derestrict it for free on Jan 2nd. (he's closed on the 1st, which is when the law gets vapourised...) It's apparently a simple matter of plugging it into a computer and pressing a short sequence of keys...
I'm getting it with the trick exhaust system so full power should sound awesome

Point of interest, after my test drive and on my way home with the GTR, the GSA is MUCH quicker.  I guess this is normal because both bikes are restricted to 100hp and the GSA is 100Kg lighter.  But the difference was marked

Quotethe new boxer is such a sweet engine and the chassis is superb
Yup the engine is incredible - and now I understand what people mean when they say "BRAAAAAAP!"
Even in the 3 hours that the dealer lent me the bike, I felt like I had seriously leveled up my riding game.  It exudes confidence and I tackled a particularly nasty route back down one of my fav mountains, that i have done many times gingerly on the GTR.  The road has been "repaired" many times and more recently, a sewage pipe put right down the middle of the downhill lane.  Whoever oversaw that project should be fired and brought up on charges for reckless endangerment... Anyway, the ease at which we accomplished this two up was stupid.  Really is a no-brainer for me....

QuoteOnly thing negative was riding on highways... More Buffering, windy...
Actually, my wife and I found it better on the motorway - much less buffeting and less windy.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  Also cruise control is a revelation!

It is a different type of bike, different type of riding and around here, there are some "tracks" that I would like to tackle, that I wouldn't even ride past on the GTR...

QuoteI've had my K1600 about 8 months now, great bike and I've no regrets changing however I still feel that the GTR is a better looking bike.
Yeah of course - the GTR looks AWESOME.  The GSA looks...  I dunno - GNARLY

So I ordered everything...  no point in buying half a bike.  The only things I didn't get was the nobbly tyres.

Of note, there is:

  • the side cases painted matt black...  those stupid alu things just look 'orrible.
  • A 2 helmet Givi top case which doesn't move when my wife leans on it at full throttle (unlike the GTR Givi)
  • the full Akrapovic exhaust system (ahem... straight through)
  • A nice comfy seat for miles of comfort with GS logo sewn in
  • Colour choice was Gendarmerie Blue  :gunsmilie:

I still can't believe that I ordered a new bike - and I still can't believe it's coming next Wednesday!

Cheers

Hi folks,

It's been AGES since I participated in this forum... Sorry about that - it's been rather hectic.  I think I posted a while ago about a superb but busy last year, and this year is turning out to be a corker too!

The bike's going well and had it's fifth birthday last month.  I treated it to a shower and a good old blast around the mountains...
I've moved house AGAIN... still in France but this time in the Haute Savoie (74).

I do have something very odd to report though...

This morning, I somehow found myself in a BMW dealer testing the 2015 GSA....  Well I sodded off with it at 11am with the wife on the back, and by 4pm I had traded in my beloved GTR and ordered the BMW.   I can't actually believe I did it, but then again, I can't actually believe the way the GSA rides!  What's even more bizarre is that even after 5 years, I traded the GTR in for more than half what I paid for it new - with 28,000Kms on the clock.

Have all of you lot still got GTRs??

Oooh and great news for us French residents:  The stupid 100BHP law is finally going away on 1st Jan 2016 - HOORAY!

Cheers
