AJ, if you are still visiting this site.....which Harley have you chosen ?

Hi OC,

I have an FXDC-ANV or Dyna Super Glide Custom 110th Anniversary version.

Thanks for all the replies and wishes!

SirToU - I have noticed recently that hardly any motorcyclists nod back anymore, some do (I always do and will continue to no matter what bike is being ridden!!). I also have no intention of growing a beard!  :mfr_lol:

Silverback & Trousersnake - I 'got' the GTR and I was comfortable on it from a handling point of view, I only did about 2500 miles on it but every time I went out I always thought I love the bike and smiled.. It just isn't for me - I liked the idea of going on long tours with it, which is why I bought it, but I cant ever get the time to do that and I just don't think I am ready for a big tourer yet. The ideal solution would have been like Pistole and had both, but my garage isn't big enough! I did part ex the GTR for the Harley, its frightening how much money it lost in just under a year!

Viper - there will be no pirate wear of any kind, no leather chaps and absolutely no tassels!!! :mfr_lol:

OC - I am sure that you wont be surprised that Harley do a complete range of cleaning products and I have already purchased the key ones! Chrome cleaner being one of them..

Maybe one day I will return to a GTR or similar - but for now my path is shiny chrome, V-Twin, back to basics riding (and a lot of cleaning ) - but lets face it as long as we are on a bike - we are all in the same family no matter what bike it is.

Ride Safe! :biker3:

Hi all,

Time for me to move on now - the GTR has been traded in! I have to be honest, I never really gelled with the GTR - I cant put my finger on why, I just didn't.. Its not a bad bike, but I don't believe its worth the money Big K ask for it, in comparison to other machines in the same group. I have now moved on to a Harley, which is something I have wanted to do for sometime, I am sure that the Harley will take more cleaning though!

So, I wish you all happy riding and thanks for the time on here :) and maybe see you on the road someday!

Cheers
AJ
PS: the subject is a Douglas Adams novel.. as I am a diver (close to a dolphin!) it seemed fitting..

I read a really good review of the new Trophy, cant remember which mag it was as I get so many and its gone to recycling now - but it was recent.. They did compare it against the GTR - the GTR did not come out favourably...

They said that the Trophy had better protection than the GTR, was not as top heavy as the GTR and handled massively better.. TBH the BMW is not in the same ball park regarding price, but I think the Trophy is going to be a real contender...

I am off to the launch event tonight, so will report back when I have seen it 'in the metal'

Hi all,

I am just catching up with this thread (I am gonna change the computer for a black one so its quicker...) can you let me know what the final design was for these? I am interested too..

I may also be able to put you in touch with a Company that does the t-shirt branding as a mate of mine runs one - Not sure how cheap it will be, but happy to pass on the details for you to chat with him if you want them just let me know :) They are based in Essex..

cheers all

went for a nice run down to the coast and along then back home - 300 or so miles so nothing major..

The red looks its best in the sun - or under bike showroom lights  - but in 'normal' daylight still looks pretty amazing.. they have the fleck just right, and its a nice deep red..

I couldnt make the meet up this year as I had only just got the bike and couldnt get it organised in time, but if there is a run out in the SE area I would love to join in.. As long as those on the black ones can wait for us on the red ones  :mfr_lol:

Cheers for the responses all :)

They didnt charge me for the oil etc on the shaft drive, so I guess that was OK..

I may look up the dealers that you all mention, and as suggested make a day of it :)

Thanks Again

I am in Kent (Maidstone) and got a brand new GTR from my local dealer and I have had several bikes from them over the years. On the sales side, I have to say they have been brilliant - but unfortunately their service department lets them down massively.. I just had the 600 mile service done, and made a massive thing about the final drive oil being changed. They confirmed it is part of the first service, and when I picked the bike up I asked if it had been done, they confirmed it had - even gave me the checklist with it ticked off.. Now, they hadnt charged me for the oil, or a gasket and previous experience made a nagging thought appear in my mind.. had they done it??

Anyhow, couldnt shake the nagging in my head, so I popped outside and checked it over. The filler hadnt been taken off (no tool marks on it), so I unscrewed it and sure enough.. oil was black! I rang them up and asked if they definitely changed the oil.. they went and asked the tech, and then came backing saying that it had been "a miscommunication and it hadnt been done. Run it down and we will do it right away".. So, to be fair they sorted it and they didnt charge me (BTW first service cost was £74.90 as there was no labour charge on it).. And yes, I did double check they had done it when I got home!!

So.. can anyone recommend a good service department in the Kent (or close) area?

Introductions / Re: New owner saying hi!

Cheers for the warm welcome everyone :)  I will have a search through the forum for the owners meet date etc - if I can make it I will for sure :)

The fourm has already helped out with info - just wired in my Garmin 660 without the use of a dealer, or spending a load of cash on their labour.. it was dead easy following the guide's on here and even easier on the 2012 bike as you dont need to remove any fairing to get to the black/yellow and black cables on the left side, just lift the edge of the big rubber weather boot. Another post had the exact size of bullets I needed so a quick trip to Halfords and all sorted.. Happy days!

Cheers

Introductions / New owner saying hi!

Hi all,

Newbie dropping in and saying hello! I have just recently traded my Busa in for a 2012 1400GTR, and havent stopped smiling since  Just booked in the first service (June 6), and have a trip to Scotland planned for July. I am in Kent, and mostly ride with my wife Gill on the back.

Missed the May Day run this year  but have been clocking the miles up since!

Been looking through the forum at all the useful info, awesome stuff.

Hope to maybe meet up with some of you for some ride outs!

Cheers
Alan
