1400GTR Discussion / Re: Low battery
October 24, 2020, 05:38:57 PM
I had the low battery warning, bike would turn over but not start. I tested the battery and found that it was discharged, around 11.9V. After an overnight trickle charge, the battery voltage was 12.7V - the bike would again turn over but not start. I connected a jumper battery and the bike started no problem.
Long story short, the bike battery (less than 2 years old) would accept a charge but would not get over 12.7V, when cranking, the voltage dropped to 11V or less and the bike would just not start.

A new lithium battery fitted and everything is hunky dory - no more low battery warning and the bike starts immediately, just as it always did.
As a bonus, the new lithium battery is smaller so allows ample room for the wiring from an optimate  and fuse holder.

I only have a multimeter so wasn't able to test the battery  properly which would no doubt have shown up the fault a bit quicker than all the faffing around charging it, the optimate didn't show it up as faulty by the way.

1400GTR Discussion / Re: F1 message
August 14, 2012, 11:10:49 AM
Funny, I was about to post a thread with the same question..

I had the red light come on for about 2 to 3 seconds, dash displayed F1 error. I was just looking to pull over when it cleared and hasn't happened since.

I was a little worried before the light came on as the fluid level in the front brake master cylinder was close to minimum level and I couldn't see any explanation for that. The bike has only 2100 miles on and there is no sign of a fluid leak anywhere.
\I have now spoken to the dealer and booked it in for a check of the brakes. The dealer told me that the fault indication will be logged in the ECU so when they plug it into the diagnostics doofer it will tell them what occurred.

Anyone had any problems with brake fluid loss? I can't see the front pads wearing enough in 2100 miles for the fluid level to drop that much.

Hi folks,
I'm heading down to Darlington soon for a couple of days and I don't know the area well. Can anyone recommend some good roads in the area fro putting the beast through it's paces. I would probably just punch in the address into tom-tom and avoid motorways but that's not guaranteed to give me any bike friendly roads so if anyone has a recommendation I'd love to hear it.

Cheers

Nobody use a chamois leather anymore?
I feel old now! Maybe I'll have to start with the leaf blower and move with the times.

I was looking at buying a Tomtom Rider but after looking around at various websites and not being able to make up my mind, I finally decided on the tom-tom europe app for my iPhone.
Still to try it in anger but the iPhone pairs up nicely on bluetooth with my ncomm b4 kit and although I won't be able to look at the screen on the phone while riding, I do get voice alerts .

Like I said, not tried it in anger yet but am fairly hopeful it will do the trick.

The app was fairly pricey at 79.99 bit still a hell of a lot less than a tom-tom rider.
Jst a bit miffed that my tom-tom one that I use in the car is not suitable for the bike too.

Halfords got more visits than planned, the 750 supersport had a crankcase oil leak, repaired with liquid metal on day one and the blackbird had some emergency chain surgery on day 2. Apart from that there were no problems ( oops, forgot about the little spill for the guy on the k1200, managed to just run off the tarmac on the single track mountain pass, no injury tho, just a little scuffing)

Will be sure to invite you next time :)

Hi guys,
thought i'd give you a quick update on the tour of the highlands.
It was great........
Turned out a few cried off but there were 13 bikes in total, met up in Edinburgh on Friday and set off for the highlands. Weather on Friday was pretty poor so the afternoon ride was a bit soggy. Luckily though, that was the worst of the weather and the rest of the weekend was mostly excellent riding weather, just a few patchy showers and damp patches.

I will post up a link shortly to some of the photos we took if anyone's interested and I'll try and give a bit more detail on the ride but for now, suffice to say that the decision to buy a GTR was definitely a good one. Now have 1300 mies on the clock and feeling like I'm getting used to it. I did find initially that it's not as nimble in the twisties as the ST4 but the difference in comfort and power makes up for it. Just had to modify my riding style a bit.
Now thinking of doing some advanced rider training to try and make the most of it.

Thanks again to all for the advice.

Cheers

I just had a look at Lonewolf's post from his trip. It looked fantastic and very well photographed and written up.

I can't promise anything as good but if the trusty iPhone does what it says on the tin then I'll have a few photos to post up.

Most of the bikes are coming over from Eire, mostly around Dublin and Kildare but there are a few coming up from Englandshire too.

I reckon about 18 in total, It should be a blast. I'm new to the group, only know a couple of the lads so I'm looking forward to it.
here's the route we're taking.

Thanks for the welcome guys, and the advice.
I've only got a few days with the bike and then I'm off on holiday so I'll need to try and pile some miles in the first week.
I'm off on a tour of the Scottish highlands on the 20th so I'm keen to have her broken in and first service done before I go. Wouldn't want to be the back marker, 16 bikes coming over from Ireland and being the only Jock I can't let the side down :)

Hi,
my name's Bert and I live in Paisley. I'll be taking delivery of my new GTR 1400 on 2nd April.
Thought I'd check in here and say hello.
Anyone got any tips on running the beast in? I have a 4 day tour coming up towards the end of the month and I'd like to be all run in before it.

Cheers

Bert
