Haha ha - very good point OC. TBH.... I hadn't really thought much about price (obviously). The only 'expensive' items are the screen and the crash bars. The screen I got a few years ago from someone on here - so 20 (where's the bloody shortcut for GBP symbol on this mac - I can never remember) - the bars I think I paid 200 - so somewhere in the region of 80. All other items - open to ANY offer.

Went for the BM S100XR - great riding position and so much lighter - and all mod cons. Haven't had it long enough to do any tours yet (2 booked for next year), but the GTR excelled touring, I took so much crap with me when I went all over Europe and the handling was still excellent and so comfortable. The GTR was like it was on rails - even packed to the gunnels, and when I had to blat on the m way to eat some miles it was effortless........ apart from lacking cruise control.

It a real shame Kwacka didn't keep the model and update it........

Hi guys, I have now sold the GTR (but I did LOVE that bike,..... and still not sure if Iv'e done the right thing......Oh well)

And I have a few bits for sale -
Puig Extra Tall screen, (made a BIG difference to me - I'm 6'1" and NEVER had a closed visor (apart from rain obviously).
R&G Crash bars ... or adventure bars  - IF your optimistic!! I dropped the bike twice (at a standstill) but that was BEFORE I fitted the bars - doh!
Pannier bags - Hein Gericke used but great condition
Givi - Tank Bag ring (dunno if I'll ever own another kwacka....
Garmin Zumo - cable NOT mounting bracket tho - I couldn't get it off the bike!!
And a Fuzeblock - for adding my various electrical items, sat nav, front and rear lights.....top box charging point

AND two Front Fairings - left and right - one brand new, bought in error and one damaged, scratched and cracked - both CANDY NEPTUNE BLUE

Anyway, before I do the whole ebay thingie... let me know if anyones interested in anything....

I too would not go to BMW they do not really have anything that floats my boat at the moment. However i am seriously looking at the Versys, but i just look at the GTR and cant bring myself to change just yet. If Mr K ever does re-vamp the GTR i will be in line for my 6th one.

Well unfortunately they are not going to. Hence the H2 an unbelievably expensive H2 SX

all good with my bmw 1600 gt experience but , I would strongly recommend anyone moving to a bmw keep up your bmw warranties!!!! I am back on a Kawasaki , (loved my k 1600 but too heavy)
Yeah funnily enough a couple of my mates have K1600 and have the BMW Warranty. They swear by it - especially as it includes wear and tear, both of them say they always find something every year that needs replacing.....FOC..... is that good or bad???

1400GTR Discussion / Moving on……

After several months of deliberation, I have finally decided to replace the GTR. I got offered a really great deal on a BMWS1000XR with full luggage, not new but only 2,500 miles and on a 18 plate.

The GTR has been (and is) a FANTASTIC bike, I've loved owning the bike and have had thousands of trouble free miles on it .... mostly in Spain, France, Germany etc. etc. etc. I admit I am a bit of an old woman and always over pack on European tours, but that's never been a problem with the huge capacity on the GTR.

I also used the bike for about 12 months commuting when I was working, and again the bike was fault free and really enabled me to enjoy a pretty boring commute.
I've put on 21k miles in 5 years of ownership. Completely trouble free, I've just had to service it and put a new battery on it 2 years ago.

IF Mr K still made it and had upgraded it with cruise control, riding modes etc.  etc. ...... then I would have bought another one, no hesitation.

I will REALLY miss the electric screen (especially in this heatwave), and the effortless cruising once she's on a roll.

With a huge top box I have also been the envy of my mates when we've had a day out recently... because when we stop for lunch I just strip to tee shirts, short and flip flops and cool off.

I had been considering spending some big bucks on a big service and changing the seat, but eventually decided on something 'sportier'  more upright and lighter (to get in and out of the garage).

Thanks to the members here that have offered some advice and guidance over the years, it has been really appreciated. I have farkled the bike quite a bit over the years of ownership - that was also partly my reluctance to swap.... Because I got the bike 'just right'.... But time moves along.

There will be some items (larger screen + adventure 'crash bars') that I will strip off shortly and advertise here and on fleabay.

So next Wednesday I will ride her to Sudbury for the last time to do the swap. I have LOVED my GTR, I just really hope I have made the right decision......

Iv'e just removed my R&G crash bars, took them off to speed up service and decided bike looks so much better without them. I just hope I don't drop her .......again

So...... every new model year is.......... yet another change of colour!!!

No electronic suspension, no cruise control.....

90% of the bikes I've tried this year have got both. WHY would a 'sports tourer' NOT have c control these days. Even a bloody GS has it??

I've just been quoted £240 for P Angel ST front and rear fitted. As on bike now and £350 for GT's . The bike handles beautifully fully loaded wet or dry. Only really worth changing to GT's IF I were to get significantly more miles from them.....

You can book from France - or anywhere obviously - but every time Iv'e checked its much more expensive.
A couple of years ago I had terrible weather on a euro tour so thought I would return a day earlier and cancel my hotel for the night. They wanted over €100 at the toll booth for a single ticket - or to change my existing ticket!!!

Obviously I turned around and went back to my hotel for the night.

I'd made the mistake of leaving the ignition on a couple of times - and needed recovery twice in the UK and a 'bump-start' on a tour in Germany. Bikes a 2010 reg on original battery. I replaced it a month ago after chatting to few biking mates - who all said ...'replace it'!

I'm off to Ireland next month for 2 week tour and didn't want to 'risk-it' - so I got one from T'internet - really good price and service. I 'think' it's a YUASA, but I can double check if interested.

I saw that one the other day when I was trying a Africa Twin around the corner at HGB. It looks very nice. I noticed the crash bobbins sticking out the fairings and that has tempted me to remove my R&G Bars and replace with the bobbins as they look a lot nicer than the bars

In about 3 weeks time I'll be able to give a 5000 mile review of this:

Cheaper than a new seat

Cheers

Paul B.

Afraid it was a wasted £25 for me, couldn't get on with it at all. When it wasn't moving about!!! It wasn't any more comfy than the seat (std Kwaka) without it on.
