1400GTR Discussion / Re: DELKEVIC exhausts
September 07, 2014, 09:03:37 AM
I've also just bought and fitted a Delkevic exhaust. No re-mapping required and sounds awesome as well.

It also just went through the MOT with it fitted.

Hi All,

I'm looking for a replacement exhaust for my 2010 GTR. Just wondered if anyone was thinking of getting rid of one.

If not anyone got an original one going. Mine has the paint comming off in lots of different areas.

Thanks all.

Hi everyone.
Does anyone know if there is any adjustment on the 2010 GTR clutch?

I was warming up the final drive oil getting ready to change it by putting the bike on the centre stand, engaging first gear and letting the rear wheel spin on tickover. When I pulled the clutch lever in the rear wheel continued to spin. It was only after putting it into neutral that it stopped after a few seconds. I'm guessing then, that the clutch didn't fully dis-engage when i pulled the clutch lever in. Thats the reason for the question.

Lokked in the repair manual but nothing specific about any adjustment.

As ever any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi all,

Just an update to say that I fitted a replacement rectifier yesterday and now she runs sweet as a nut again.

Hopefully anyone else having charging problems will be able to use this thread to help diagnose the possible causes.

Doebag,
When the battery went flat I had to get a couple of work mates to give me a jump start.
On the wat home the reading from the bikes display showed the battery at 14.5 volts so it seemed to be getting a charge.

When I started it the next day after fitting a new battery it started ok but was making the noise I have described previously.

Seeing as I have changed the battery the next thing, cheapest thing, to change is the rectifier at £122.

Hopefully this will solve the problem. I will keep you all posted at the end of the week as to the outcome.

Cheers

Andy,

Not sure as to the exact cause of the battery going flat in the first place. I use my bike every day and it only stood for 3 days and then the ride to work (45 minutes) and then it wouldn't start. Bike is 2010 so not that old.

Just looked at the price of a new alternator. £445. shit!!

Viper,

As a precaution I have already changed the battery to rule it out.

If its alternator bearing that seems to account for the noise. would this mean that the alternator stops rotating for a split second and so doesn't send a charge to the battery???

Hi all,

So the battery lost its charge and wouldn't start the bike so measured the voltage when I got it running again and only showed 11volts. However the next day I started the bike and it showed 14.5 which is about normal. But what I have noticed is when the voltage going to the battery drops when the bike is runing the lights go a bit dimmer for a couple of seconds and I can hear a sound that I can only describe like a bearing which get stuck. A kind of high pitch wine which only last for a couple of seconds.

I'm thinking it might be the alternator in some way, which I assume rotates in the stator coil, but not sure exactly how the alternator works.

Could it also be the rectifier in some way.

Any thoughts greatly received before i start spending loads a dosh.

By the way changed the battery anyway but didn't make any difference.

thanks all

Thanks for all of the feedback and advice. I agree with keeping the fluids and filters changed on a regular basis which mine has as i ride about 10 - 11K per year commuting to work and back.

I'm going to go with the option of waiting to have the shims checked and maybe have them done at 45K when I have the plugs changed. As per others comments I had the plugs changed at 15K as I think every 7.5K is just a money spinner for K.

Thanks again all.

1400GTR Discussion / To shim check or not to shim check
January 03, 2014, 07:47:05 PM
Hi all and a happy new year,

I'm looking for some opinions on the shim check as part of the 26K service. I wondered if people who have had their shims checked needed to have them changed or not.

Money being tight as it is, i'm wondering if i can pass on the shim check as this is the only part of the service schedule that I'm not able to do myself.

Just wondered what the feelings were from you guys?

cheers all.

Hi all,

Just had to have a front wheel bearing replaced and wondered if anyone else has had any issues with wheel bearings.
My bike is a 2010 with 18,700 miles on and I ride all the year round. Even so seems a bit early for wheel bearing problems.

Cheers

1400GTR Discussion / Re: gtr/michelin pr3's

I second what Viper has said. I have just changed my rear PR3 after 6900 miles. I only got just over 4K from the Skidstones and they were hopeless in the wet. As soon as you start to tip into a corner with the Skidstones thet felt as if they were sliding. The PR3's are a completely different feel. No sliding in the wet until you actually reach somewhere near the limit of grip and even then you can feel the slide just starting. They give great feedback.

Just changed my rear PR3 after 7K miles. As I have put on this forum before superb tyres. And guess what I put on the back? Yep another PR3.
I ride all year round and as others have said these are superb.
Front has done 7K with about 3-4K left.

Just had my PR3 delivered right on time. I paid £134 including delivery from www.oponeo.co.uk.

Came from Germany via DPD.de (which is the german courier arm of dpd).

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Rear shock preload seized
October 08, 2012, 11:32:27 AM
Just an update to all to say that the rear shock was replaced this morning with a shiny new one. The dealer said that they have put some greese in the adjuster to stop any crud getting into it so hopefully this will solve the problem. I was also advised to turn the adjuster knob every couple of weeks.

Took 45 minutes to replace after taking just 3 days to get into stock.
