If you can't adapt your riding style to the Kawasaki and still 'need to trail the rear into a corner' I suggest you stay with the BMW GSA - what on earth are you doing on a tour where you 'need' this style of riding? Is it anything to do with some advanced training you might have taken (tongue in cheek)?

Thank you guys for all your replies I appreciate your comments, after all if you need advice about a GTR where else would you get it from other than GTR owners instead of the "salesman's advice".

The question was specifically to do with the linked brakes on the new 2015 model, as stated in my opening question that I couldn't get on with the linked brakes so sold my 2010 GTR after 12 weeks of ownership. I love the look of the GTR and would buy another tomorrow if the brakes had been improved (many youtube vids also comment on the linked brakes as well as some of you fellow GTR owners)

I also refer to Redrat's comment above which he seems to think that if you cant get on with Kawasaki's linked brakes you have a sub standard riding style or some specialised advanced riding style unknown to any other biker than me. These type of comment are not constructive and I wouldn't dream of suggesting anyone else's riding style is substandard after all we all do things differently.

So thank you again to the people who have offered constructive comments.

I think i'll need to find a dealer with a 2015 demo bike and just give it a go and see if the upgrades to the linked system suits me.

1400GTR Discussion / Coming back to Kawasaki?

Hi All,

I sold my 2010 GTR1400 a good while back now and went back to the BMW GSA.

The reason for the sale was to do with the linked brakes, I just couldn't get used to them and if I needed to trail the rear into a corner it made the front dip which for me was really unnerving. So back to BMW I went but im looking at a couple of long tours this year and already one in prep for 2016 and I still really like the GTR. So have Kawasaki changed or altered / upgraded the linked brakes on the 2015 model?

If they are still the same then i'll be staying with BMW but if the brakes have been changed I would seriously look at a 2015 GTR.

Your kind advice would be appreciated.

The 5a fuse kept popping on my 2010 bike when I fitted my sat nav. I took it back to the main dealer under warranty and they found that water had got into the cigarette type socket on the dash and was causing the fuse to blow. It was dried and cleaned under warranty and I've had no problems at all since. Hope this may help

Hi Guys,

As a new member ive read a few notes on servicing costs and have myself been involved in discussions with Kawasaki re dealers costs. As an example the 7500 mile service on my GTR was quoted by one dealer at £500, another dealer £140-160 plus parts, and another dealer at £281.00 all in.

Well if you didnt know Kawasaki have taken this onboard and have advised dealers to advertise the servicing costs breaking down labour, oil, parts and VAT giving a total which standardises the servicing costs.

So i was pleased to see my local Kawasaki dealer, M and S in Newcastle loading this onto their website.

http://kawasaki.mandsmotorcycles.co.uk/kawasaki-aftersales-servicing.aspx

Copy and paste this and move down to the bit where it says "select your model and mileage" and it automatically knows by the model the servicing intervals and its easy select which service you require and it quotes you a breakdown of the service costs.

Well Done M and S

Hope this helps with any queries on servicing costs

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I know we have a few advanced riders amongst the GTR group so my question is as follows:

I have been riding now for a long time and done many thousand miles but ive never done any advanced courses so which or the two, RoSPA or IAM would be the best to go with? Is one better than the other? Does one get better discount on insurance quotes? and which one will teach me the best way to improve my riding skills

Thank you, your comments will be very much appreciated

Thanks Mark

Well thank you all for your comments, after talking to the nice man at my local RoSPA group ive decided to go with them so my training starts 21st February. Thanks again for your replies

Hi,

Under the seat is a 5amp micro fuse shown as accessories with a spare 5amp fuse next to it. This was the fuse that caused the problem rather than the inline sat nav fuse.

The ebayer i purchased it from does not take returns :-[ So ive just reloaded it on ebay. Not worth the hastle for £20 to be emailing and arguing over refunds.

Thanks for your advice though

Well thanks all for the comments and suggestions. The sat nav is now fitted and working and the cause was an incorrectly fitted 5amp micro fuse.

Cheers again for you help

Is it that it's not charging the zumo or is it a case of its not powering the zumo on?

Hi, The zumo starts up no problem but is not charging from the bike. It is being powered from its own battery which lasts for about 4 hours. I know the zumo charges from the incar charger as ive tried that!.

If i cant get an answer from your good selves i will have to wait until the bike goes into M and S for the 7500 service and ask them to have a look at it I suppose. Pity really thought it was going to be an easy job.

Hi Guys,

I got the beast out yesterday to hardwire the Zumo 550.

The message above with the link was great as it showed a photo of the left side upper/inner fairing removed and the plastic sheath covering the bikes electrical connector boxes and indeed two cable with bullet connectors on it. One black/yellow cable negative and one black cable positive. So i had a go at what seemed to be a very easy fit! (So I Thought)

The info was slightly different than mine turned out to be as mine is a 2010 bike and the inner/upper fairing houses the on/off switch for the headed grips and the luggage box but that said the described cables were under the sheath.

I fitted the mounting bracket and the Garmin Sat Nav Holder to the bike, I then used bullet connectors to attached the red live cable with the inline fuse to the black cable on the bike and the black cable from the sat nav power lead to the yellow and black cable on the bike. I then fitted the other end to the Garmin cradle and screwed it down with the two tiny screws. I started the bike and attached the sat nav but it is not charging from the bike!

So in conclusion,

The zumo 550 sat nav definately works as it charges from the car charger!
The power lead was purchased brand new!
Ive definately attached the two wires correctly, red to bikes black and the sat nav black to the bikes yellow/black cable.

I have in fact purchased a brand new Garmin Sat Nav Holder yesterday thinking that that is the only other thing that may be the problem so when it comes i'll give it a go.

If the sat nav still does not charge from bike with the new holder (when it comes) has anybody got any ideas what it could be? Other than no power coming from the two bike cables i am a little stuck. If there is no power from the bike cables what could be the problem? Plus i aso noticed that the luggage box has a wired connection so that it can only open when the bike is powered up, would i be able to take the power from that to charge the sat nav?

Im stuck so any help would be really appreciated,

Thank you

Mark
