Me and a couple of mates are getting Nigel of 'Shiny Bike Syndrome' to work his magic round my place possibly next weekend if anyone near Junction 15 on the M4 fancies getting their bike put back to "new".
Can't confirm the date yet , he's on his way back from Spain - should know by Wednesday.

General Discussion / Re: Its time to come clean

Ten out of ten OC.
Back in the 80's I found one in the back of a dealers warehouse in the desert in Nevada, still in a wooden crate wrapped up just as it left the Small Heath factory in 1960. Guy wanted $20,000 and I was poor back then.
Wonder what it's worth now.

General Discussion / Dodgy Email
August 07, 2012, 08:29:33 AM
I received an email yesterday from a good friend ,secretary of the village sports club, headed "Holiday Mishap -Help Needed"
The story was that my friend had been mugged of her wallet , passport , cards , flight tickets etc. Stuck in Spain so could I (we) send her 1,300 Euros to check out of the hotel , buy flights home and stuff.

One quick phone call to another club member and it turns out that the entire membership received the same message.

Love to have 5 minutes in my shed with the perpetrator.

Hey up !!
I bought a Diavel when they first came out in March last year.
Both bikes sit side by side in my shed and are very happy - no kids yet tho'.
They are completely opposite in terms of riding experience. The D has been in for a couple of recalls but , so far, ultra reliable after 5,000 miles. The road tests go on about the power ,handling and comfort etc and it's all true. You will struggle to cruise at (ahem) speed compared to the GTR but the acceleration and brakes within legal limits are awesome.I use it for local riding ,ie no luggage and very light (210 kgs !) and more electronics than you can shake a stick at. And although I think it an ugly bugger , most folk think it looks great. That rear tyre is huge and works , I changed both mine for £275 at 4k. Other owners have had problems but most of us have been happy.
If I've had a problem it has been with finding a nearby reliable dealer . The supplying dealer completely buggered the first service at 600 miles to the extent that I got quite cross and got my money back (and I am a very mild person normally).
The dealer that did the recalls would do nothing else.I asked for the rear brake to be adjusted but he wasn't interested. I booked the bike in for a software upgrade ( 5 mins max) , arrived at the appointed time and got told I had to wait coz the techie was just  going to lunch.
I'll be taking it to another one for it's annual check soon but I rang round and got quotes of between £150 and £250.  The check involves (in their words) looking at it.  No brake strip and clean,no chain adustment ,no oil/filter etc. WTF ??
A possible analogy between the bikes would be that of 5 series BMW and a Ferrari 458. One is silent speed and comfort and the other is all noise and excitement.
Have a long test ride Pistole , I hear there are deals available .If you buy though make sure the recalls are all done and you get a good vibe from your dealer.

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Re: Lights ??
July 17, 2012, 04:20:28 PM
Done it now. Bulbs were just under a tenner from Halfords.
Took a bit longer than BigAlan though - relocating the plate under the nose was a bit of a fiddle.

Also got the 3,750 mile service done at Vardy Racing in Swindon.
No faults found and all fluids and filters changed. He also stripped , cleaned and rebuilt all the calipers.  Two hours labour plus parts . Cost £111.38. Seems like a deal to me.

And he's a bigK registered techie.

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Lights ??
July 17, 2012, 10:54:00 AM
I noticed a couple of the bikes at the recent Lower Lode meet had changed the two front running lights under the headlights swapped out for blue led bulbs.
Are they okay legally ??
Been told that as long as they don't flash on and off , and are of low wattage , they are probably okay.
Quite like the look of them.

I have a new one in my shed if it's any use to you.
Sadly it's green.

Not much use to you AJ but anyone with a brain round here always get stuff done by Gary Vardy Racing in Swindon.
Working on his own Gary is Kawasaki certified and you can actually watch him working if you want to wait. No fancy chrome and flash , just loads of knowledge and competance.
He's on Swindon 481008 and charges about 40 quid an hour.

Just back from brimming it.
180 on the trip - 18 litres exactly - 170 when the low fuel light came on.

Dash said I'm getting 46.5 mpg.

Hope this is useful

We went , got damp (not wet), didn't see many boats but had a great time.
Stood at the Tate Modern across from St.Pauls and watched on the giant screen. Millions of people ,all friendly as you like, loads of bbq's etc. And that Shard building , well - it's a bit tall.
Our highlight was getting through central London with most roads and bridges closed , then realized that tagging on the back of police bikes and vans got us through in no time.   Never have got through in a car.
Bike went well although got hot a couple of times and within 10 miles of home the "Low Fuel" light came on. Trip was on 170 miles so I'll brim it again today and get a better idea about ultimate range.

nb..Mrs.Wilts is never going to ride pillion again ,she says.

If any non southwest riders need parking and "gear drop off place" you are welcome to join up at the flat.
