Thanks all for your welcome

Recently back from our latest trip in mid July took the Harley (cheated a bit took the bike down in a van Harleys are not made to do trans euro trips)  to the Swiss Alpine passes based ourselves in Andermatt for 5 days, the passes have to be ridden to be believed they are just fantastic  places to ride a bike, including the  Swiss valleys with there immaculate nothing out of place villages and breath taking scenery, We then travelled down to the Italian Lakes for a week, great fun . We also found the van enabled us to drive back from Italy to home via the europipe 900 miles in one day, someone will probably tell me this can be done on a bike in one day but the best I managed on the GS was 650 miles in a day.

Next  trip should if all goes to plan be the west coast of Scotland early in October, or if the weather looks appalling up in Scotland we might take in a few of the WW1 sites in Belgium. For next summer I am thinking Top of Spain round to Portugal early in the summer, then later the Austrian Alps then down through to Croatia. All this depends on how well the GTR suits us.

I liked the Roadking allot bought it because a good mate had taken his to Spain a couple of times so I thought it might suite us for some long distance trips, but I was wrong they are heavy and slow off the line in traffic, not enough comfort to ride more than 150 miles in one stint and a nightmare to keep looking good if you get caught out in bad weather.

I live over here in the eastern flatlands known as Norfolk (12 mile southeast of Norwich).

I will be back on here for some advice soon as I need help with Identifying the aftermarket  screen fitted to the bike and I need comments on the best Ram mount for the GTR to fit my Zumo 660 on.

Thanks again all

New to your fourm well not realy cos I have been reading with interest the posts on here.
I have owned lots of bikes over the years starting with an AP50 Suzuki in 76 RD 250. 400 Four. 550 Four. Z1000 Z900 TRITON then 15 years off till 99 bought a 76 Harley Shovel  3 eng rebuilds in 2 years so it had to go, then a 76  Z900  a 76 Z1000, SV1000, Aprilia Falco (well under rated bike it was great)  94 Harley 1340 , 2003 Road King, 09 BMW R1200GS, currently  09 Harley Fat Bob. and a 76 Z1000, and now a 2009 1400GTR.

The idea behind the GTR came from our need to have a bike to cover big miles for touring 2 up, the GS was to have been the bike for this task but after a fully loaded trip to Italy I decided that the GS was not the bike for this job. Looking to the  BMW K series tourers I thought they seemed very capable but i cant get passed the way they look just to slab like. I  looked at the FJR Yam but think it is well over due an update, So here I am a GTR owner, keen to see how well it will do the job we bought it for.
