I have my eye on the long oval Titanium can with carbon end piece - should look absolutely fab :-*
Or maybe I should better go for the carbon variety? :-\

Carbon fiber cools more quickly and is sexy but can deteriorate more quickly over time compared to stainless or ti.

If you look at how the systems have evolved it makes sense that there is no cat in end can. For example, my 01 zx12r and 05 zx10r both had cats in the can. A simple slip on swap and I was good to go with better throttle response, heat dissipation, slight hp increase, and a few pounds lighter. My 08 zx10 had the cats in the header pipe thereby requiring a full exhaust. The zx14 went to header cats with the revision in '08. It may relate to efficiency or effectiveness and not just the ease of getting rid of the cat but for whatever reason the trend in Kawasaki has been towards header cats and away from the end can cats.

The only issue I have run into when removing the cat(s) is this guy showing up at my doorstep crying like a little girl:

I have contacted Kawasaki UK customer service with this question and hopefully they will be able to settle the matter once and for all.
If the rocket launcher is really just a silencer I will replace it with a oval Beowulf Titanium end can when I come back from France next month.  ;D
I totally agree that the original is far to big and ugly. :D :D

Cat isn't in the end can... :) Check out the USA forums where guys have removed it.

AFAIK the GTR has 2 cats. One in the pipe and one in the end can.
So why should I go to US forums to read about idiots who obviously give a damn about the environment and remove the first cat out of the pipe as well? Real heroes,  ???
Yeah, let's burn some tyres and show those tree-hugging hippies we don't give a sh..t!  :o

Indeed - and it's not like there's any data manipulation at the Climate Research Unit (CRU) in Hadley, U.K.??

Regarding the cat(s) if you look under your bike you can see where the two are located by the discoloration caused by the heat. There is not cat in the end pipe, the literature is often wrong on these details.

Here are some dyno results for end can and full systems: http://fuelmotousa.com/2008_kawasaki_zg1400_concours.htm

You can quell your concern about removing the cats by buying carbon credits from Al Gore so he can get a bigger house and a fatter arse.  ;D

Is this guy cool or what...nice one mate.....! 8)

If you want to survive I95 in Florida you have to stay 5mph ahead of the cages. These folks are nuts with average speeds in the 80's while they upgrade their status on Facebook and sip their Starbucks.  :o

Hello

Yeah great to see your Photos of the Bike in Red Jasson...Have you got any issues with heat while on the Bike. Ive heard like the Fjr you can get very hot , especially in hot countries like yours.

It gets a bit warm but it's no real bother. Most of my big bore bikes (hayabusa, zx12, etc) have been on the warm side when in traffic. I spend most of my time on the interstate between 80-100mph and it's not an issue during that type of riding.

British racing green has always been a lovely colour, but I prefer black  ;D

Shouldn't that British racing green come with a tan leather seat? ??? 8)

.............and don't forget - Europe on the doorstep!!

Of that I am truly envious. Road trips to another state are an all day affair here and flying is an utter PITA thanks to our inspector clouseau security procedures. On the downside it looks like our puritanism is coming back your way...I read that the Dutch are going to ban tourists from smoking cannabis. Heresy!

Hello Jason and "Welcome" to the site .... hope you enjoy it !
As the others have said  ..... No we are NOT jealous of your Florida climate and warmth and sunshine and roads and big steaks and chain of " Hooters " ... no, not at all !!

;D I took the wife out for out 5th anniversary last night and we had a couple of juicy steaks ;D

We actually get many customers from GB through our store in Delray. Good folks and always pleasant as can be; quite a contrast from some of the whiney locals.

We may have sunshine but you guys have curves & castles.  ;)

Greetings,

South Florida, USA here. I came across this forum when doing some research on my bike. It's an '09 Red ABS I picked up last week. I scored a sweet deal on it as a "leftover" and the red had always been my favorite color. Previous Kawasaki's include, begining with my first bike, KDX 80, H2 750,  ZX6E, ZX9B2, '01 ZX12, '05 ZX10, '08 ZX10, 09 KLR 650, '05 Nomad 1600.

I'm only 400 miles into this one but so far it's exceeding all expectations.

Thanks for the information I've already gleaned from the forum and the free service manual  ;D
