1400GTR Discussion / Re: The tyre review thread
August 09, 2017, 10:56:17 PM
I bought a A8F back in May which was fitted with Avon Storm Ultra, the Avons were 2/3rds worn and felt a little weird. After a rear puncture replaced with Metzler Roadtec 01's which are a massive improvement. Handling and steering are excellent, very confident wet or dry with quick warm up. No siren noise mentioned in a earlier post. Coming up to a 1000 miles with no noticeable drop in performance or wear - not cheap but highly recommended.

Was it a Michelin that punctured?
No it was a Avon Storm Ultra, although I could have done without a puncture both tyres were more than half worn.

Welcome and congratulations on the new bike. I used to live in Forres many, (many) years ago on Brodie Place if you know it?
yes I do we used to live in Thornhill Crescent which is the next street along. Now live just outside Forres in Rafford.

After a weeks delay I arrived at Leeds via planes and trains on Saturday to pick up my A8F. Completed the purchase and headed north routing M1, A1, A66, M6, M74, off at Moffat and up to Edinburgh on A701 (nice road), across the Forth Bridge and up the M90 to Perth and then A9 home. Unfortunately events were curtailed 10 miles south of Perth on the M90 with a rear puncture. Eventually recovered by the RAC and now home. Looking back I think the rear tyre had been losing pressure for some time as the the handling was a little 'strange' coming up the Moffat road.
So I have ordered a pair of Metzler Roadtec 01's - I thought Metzlers as I have M7RR's on my Speed triple and luv them.
First impressions - nice bike, comfy to ride distance, and the motor is stonking. I am looking forward to trying the handling on new tyres. The bike is a 57 plate with 23000 miles and one owner and runs well.  Front disks are good with no warping, the preload adjuster works. General condition is pretty good a couple of scabby patches on the torque arms at the back where the paint is coming off so come winter treat them to either powder coat or two pack. The service history is a little sketchy - I carry out my own servicing so no problem, so treating it to fresh fluids and filters all round while waiting for the tyres. The rear TPS does not work so the dealer has ordered one up..a little salty at £164 asking!(I suspect he will go Chinese).

Hi all,
So on Saturday, the plan is to fly down to Manchester, get the train to Leeds, and pick up my A8F ABS in black ..and then ride it home to Forres Scotland, 'bout 400 miles ish, should be a good introduction to a GTR  :mfr_lol: Anyone know a good online site for a workshop manual? Cheers Al.
