1400GTR Discussion / Re: Big ride
May 20, 2018, 06:34:59 AM
The best thing I did was to take my seat to Custom seats at Coventry...£250/£270 but well worth it.  We rode down through France last year and did a smig under 500 miles and got off the bike ok, no numbness anywhere.

We enjoyed last years meet down in the Forest of Dean, so pencil us both in for now. Not sure about staying as yet, the Belfrey is only 50 mins up the road for us, and we're off to Portugal at the end of Aug.

It is nice to stay over night thou just to sit and chew the fat, we will try our hardest.  :punk:

General Discussion / Re: riding laws in France

I'm with the general consensus.

Reflective stickers on Helmets;- don't have to be retro fitted to helmets that haven't come with them already fitted, those visiting France from other countries don't have to comply with the helmet sticker rule, those selling stickers near the ports would like to convince you otherwise.
High Viz;- it's compulsory to have it available to put on without leaving the vehicle.
Speeding;- Since May 2017 you can now be traced. DVLA now give out your details to foreign countries trying to track down offenders.

Nitty is spot on as far as I'm concerned, having chased up every bloody site on the France biking laws last year...when we went on holls there....also..

I'm not saying that wearing a HI-VIZ will make other drivers see you :nono: I'm saying that wearing HI-VIZ as got to help other drivers to see you
The problem with everyone wearing hi viz is that it then becomes part of the scenery and is no longer seen.
Quote from: Lonewolf on April 08, 2018, 07:40:28 PM
If high viz was compulsory and everyone had to wear high viz arm bands and jackets, gloves etc this wouldn't be  problem would it Dave?
Education, not Legislation!

This is where you become part of the street furniture..just like any other street sign that most folks don't take any notice of.. :2guns:

At the moment we're on hols in Portimao Portugal for 2 weeks,  we've been down to one of the beaches this morning,  and you will not believe the number of bikes & scooters with the riders in shorts, vest & flip flops.. :censored:  I rest my case your honour... :hammer:

I agree with you all 100%,  but if you ever tried to explain to these "biker morons" what the results of a fall are they would just shrug it off as it ain't going to happen to them because "I'm the best biker here".

Way back I was a bike instructor, and we had folks turn up for training in flip-flops....no gloves...in fact no protection at all.
The first thing I would do was to get them to drag the palm of their hands over the tarmac surface and would ask them "what do you feel".

They would look at me and you could see what they were thinking..."this guy's a twat"...so I would help them out with the answer....it's like cheese grater.  Then I would show them a write-up by a London base surgeon from a bike mag,  were this doctor asked bikers  to stop wearing Bri-nylon shorts while riding in the heat wave we were having, as he was fed up with skinning these morons.

What was happening was as they went down the road on their arse, the nylon was melting, mixing with the grated skin then would set as it cooled down...hence the action he would then have to peel the damaged part and then do skin grafts.

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Stolen Panniers
February 25, 2018, 05:45:44 AM

Thieving barstewards....it's shit when you can't leave your bike for 20 mins without some  :asshole: thinking that it's ok to steal the panniers.  I must admit I didn't know until this post that the boxes can be taken off, (even when locked) so easy....how is this???

Does anyone know of any hints or tips on what we can do to make it harder for these scumbags???...

I've just had a look on the bay, there are loads of lids, and a few adds for panniers will keep an eye open anyway..

It can be so exasperating with some of them.....you would think that they would all be within a £ or two the same,  but it just goes to show how much markup they have to play with.. :2guns:
