1400GTR Discussion / Re: screen mod
July 04, 2017, 01:17:38 PM
Hi guys,
I am 6' 3" have the GTR 1400 with a tall screen fitted not the Kawasaki one but generic and had buffeting / turbulance issues from the screen just at top of helmet, saw this one on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laminar-Lip-for-Kawasaki-GTR1400-GTR-1400-2010-on-screen-/322172957996?epid=1768803518&hash=item4b0301352c:m:mDOoipLwXlq8PO_HbV245lQ - some time back now, the guy said he couldn't be sure would fit or work so I went over to see him and after looking at one or two others decided that this was a good fit.
Once fitted tested it and have now had on for possibly 3 years and it is brilliant, no wind noise or buffeting, can ride with visor up even at more than motorway speed, even 90 mph plus no problem other than when rains as no wind to blow off the droplets so have to wipe or stick my head out to side.
Tried the MRA vario on ZZR 1100 was absolutely crap no improvement.

Yep fitted the Rostra Cruise to mine, cost me just under £150 at the time and works brill from 30mph upward, keeps speed constant up hill or down and disengages by use of either brake or clutch.
Link to fitting it - https://www.murphskits.com/catalog/docs/Rostra%20install.htm
Will also work on later models as mine is 2010 GTR.

Hi
Have a towbar fitted to my GTR1400, ordered one from Australia bit more expensive but lovely bit of kit not chunky and can be removed by 4 bolts.
I tow a Squires trailer, the smaller of them and have to say tows like a dream, in fact you don't know it's there and because of panniers cannot see it in mirrors so occasionally have to twist round to see if still attached.

Introductions / Hello from Stafford
November 20, 2016, 03:15:45 PM
I am the proud owner of a Midnight blue GTR1400, 2010 model.
Bought by chance on eBay, appeared for sale as low mileage, 826 miles, so not even run in and that was in 2012 so 2 years old, after speaking with the seller he agreed to sell to me for £8000, what a bargain, came with Kwak gel seat and taller screen, even got the original seat and screen given to me, really nice guy he was.
Anyway since then have fitted electronic cruise control, towbar, rear hugger, extended front mudguard, stainless radiator protector, bar risers, engine crash bars and rear crash bobbins.
I love the ride comfort and handling of the bike, think the only downside to the GTR is the weight of it.
Anyway hoping to meet up with some of you on rides out in the near future.

Hi Robin
I have the after market tall screen fitted as I am on tall side @ 6' 3" and still found trouble with buffeting and wind noise, so went with the laminar lip from eBay (322172957996) works brilliantly, so quiet can now here road and engine noise from gap by bars, also no buffeting now.
The laminar lip works by smoothing out the flow of air as it leaves the tip of the screen.

I did this as a mod to my GTR1400 about 4 to 5 years back.
Was looking for a throttle lock and was shocked at the price of them especially the bar end type, then I found this on the web - http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/docs/Rostra%20install.htm
I decided to go with fitting the Rostra cruise control and have been more than chuffed to bits with the results, I can engage the cruise from around 35 mph upward and holds the set speed very accurately with no hunting, it cost me around £150 at the time so would think will be a shade dearer now but was worth every penny.
Oh yes if anyone has doubts about safety it is disengaged by using either brake or pulling in clutch lever and of course by cancel button.
The instructions are very good and all the parts are available on the web.
I did a minor alteration to the bracket fitted to the throttle stop on the carb but otherwise all same.
If anyone wants any more info I am only too glad to help.

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Average tank range?

I ride 2010 GTR and on a long run can achieve 59 - 60 mpg also have on several occasions got 260 out of tank, have run till flashes but managed 30 miles on reserve, thinking of taking a fuel can with me to see what I can actually get on reserve when starts flashing before runs dry as worth knowing if really pushed.

Hi peeps, I am new to this forum and ride a GTR1400 2010.

With reference to tired throttle hand, I can recommend this mod - http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/docs/Rostra%20install.htm - I did it to mine a couple of years ago and cost me around £145 all in and the instructions are pretty good.
Got electronic cruise can set from 30mph upward, a real bonus on a long trip.
The only alteration I made was made the throttle stop arm a little longer so as made less sensitive at lower speeds.
If anyone needs info let me know.
