Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Re: Ram Mounts

I use copilot on the iPhone and it's been as good as any of my pure sat navs. Been all over Europe with no problems but I always have the backup of using the native iPhone maps as well. It's just they only work with a signal and the sat nav app has downloaded all the maps it needs. I always figured if one app was no good I would just download another :-) all I would need is data connection or wifi.

I think it was about £30 for Western Europe plus the very expensive iPhone of course. I use it in other peoples cars, when walking etc so I always have my sat nav with me as always have the phone with me.

It's not great with gloves but I velcrod a touch screen pen above the clocks and use that if I need to. The Velcro has survived autobahns and 140 mph so seems to work.

Stoke Tim and I rode back across Yorkshire and then split up at the A1M M1 junction. I rode across snake pass which said it was closed but I rode up it anyway and it wasn't... Snake pass all to myself 😍

Had a very good weekend thanks everyone....

General Discussion / Re: sat nav

I got rid of individual sat navs and now use my iphone with downloaded sat nav software. You can get garmin, tom tom and others for about £50 which I liked as I can if I want use different ones. I use copilot which was about £40 for europe and used it in the summer extensively. I decided I would just download a different one if it wasnt any good - just needed wireless to do so. I bought an iphone waterproof case which RAM mounts so I just have one device for music, sat nav and phone. It means one connection to my bluetooth.

I guess the same software is available for android devices but I dont know if you can get the waterproof RAM mounts.

Usage is not great with gloves so i have a touch screen pen velcro'd to my fairing....  I can tell you that velcro works at 140 on the autobahn! the main downside for me is i am now an old bastard and cant read the screen without glasses so the number of times I have randomly phoned people is quite scary.

I can confirm the bike is sorted - it is being picked up by a transporter and taken to Ireland. I also had confirmation the train journey completed successfully and I spoke to John who was in the car with Asif and on route to Holyhead with plenty of time to catch the ferry.

Spoke to John about an hour ago

He is sorted for getting to manchester by train and lift, but also has backup plan that if he gets delayed i will collect him from birmingham station and take him to holyhead from there so all looks ok now....

Just seen this as stoketim told me - happy to help in any way required either with getting bike or John back. Happy to take car down, pick up and take him back to Ireland if needed. Holyhead is a couple of hours from me (Stoke on Trent).

If needed just let me know.

Well I was thinking something as follows:-

Dates - late July, august ie in school holidays for those who need it.

Length of trip - meeting itself to be somewhere where we can get to and back over a long weekend, ie Friday to Monday, or thursday to Sunday. Some may extend their trip, but the shortest time required would be four days. This would keep costs down for those who have other commitments.

Destination - ideally somewhere with likely chance of sun and where we can have a BBQ and beer ideally buying from local shops to keep costs down. This probably means a biker b and b where we can agree with them a BBQ/ party at night and maybe a discount rate.

Any other ideas?

Thanks Neil

I got up this morning and had withdrawal symptoms from bikes, beer and gammon (and sticky toffee pudding - sorry Tony) and having done two meetings in succession in the rain, I wondered if people would be up for a meet in Europe next year?

If we went somewhere like the black forest it is not too far and yet central for the south of france, Switzerland, Italy, eastern Europe etc. Those of us wanting a longer holiday could go further afield either before or after.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, neil

Also home now - via hoylake and more rain. Cant see pembsgtr in the line dancing...

Excellent weekend even with the rain - i'm going to miss the company, the gammon hock, and the honey beer. My bike Jacket was definitely a lot tighter coming back.

Good to see everyone and look forward to next time (somewhere sunny and dry). Hope everyone else got home ok.

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Petrol tank rusted inside
August 03, 2011, 12:42:13 AM
Hi lone wolf - yes a good will gesture based on the fact even if the fuel was bad the tank should have lasted more than three years. It was a strange conversation, blaming me for the problem, but paying half.

They were quite supportive after I complained, but I could not get them to shift from 50%. I got them to agree to rethink if there was evidence of similar problems on other bikes, but I have not found anything.

I have to admit, having walked out of the dealer and ready to buy a Honda I rode for a few miles and remembered why I bought the gtr...

1400GTR Discussion / Petrol tank rusted inside

Just had to have a new tank on my 2008 model. The filler pipe had rusted inside. Kawasaki paid half but it still cost 500 quid. I wondered if anyone had heard of this problem?

The bike is stored in winter and Kawasaki effectively said I probably had crap fuel in, but i doubt it. Even if I did, I have been storing bikes for years in this way with no problems.

Very disappointing, but still enjoying every minute on the gtr especially with the flies removed and the PC.

I can't see any mention on uk or us sites which means I can't fight Kawasaki and tell them it's a quality problem.

Thanks Neil

Thanks appreciate it.... I will sort with the wife but we are likely to come up for the day or preferably stay over. I will try and sort bookings this weekend. It's possible a couple of guys from the 1400gtr forum will join too. I can understand the worry about a large group ... How many are you expecting?

Thanks Neil

Hi - just joined this site having been given the link by a mate from 1400gtr.org. A couple of us from the other forum might be interested in coming along if you will have us?

Thanks, Neil
