Thought mine was going the same way, till a highly respected independent spanner man said to check the rocker gasket first, and fair play, he was right!
Intermittent smoking on start after a few days park-up. Slight weep would occasionally collect a pool near exhaust headers, burn off was impressive!

Need it gone! On Ebay now, starting at £15, grab a bargain.

Laminar Lip for Kawasaki GTR1400 08/09 - original screen.
Great addition to smooth the buffeting from the standard screen.
Good condition, some marks from kamakazee flies etc, but no scrapes, and 6 #m locking pads to fix to your screen.
Spare 3M dual-lock fixings from Ebay if needed.
Any q's please email me, delivery will be economy courier, sign for and insured.

Apologies! Family commitments have taken priority so will be unable to attend tomorrow, quite miffed as never been there as yet and it sounds like a grand day out!
If anyone is going as free admission and right time of year to have a day inside looking at aged "eye candy", hope it's a real good do!
Apologies again.
Plan to be at NEC show Monday 20th so might catch up then.

The Market / Re: Misc bits up for grabs

Ebay has helped move on some bits, but still looking to sell on:-

Laminar Lip for MK1 (2007 - 2009), very good condition, but some typical screen marks from use. 6 spare self adhesive locking pads included which you fix to screen to secure Lip, some folk do drill and bolt.

Bagster / Baglux Mk1 (2007 - 2009) tank cover / tank bag mount, excellent condition, all straps / clamps good, tank pocket opening cover, and grey that looks in place on silver / grey bike!

Any interest please PM me.

1400GTR Discussion / Screen mounting bracket
October 17, 2017, 07:28:34 PM
When I first joined this here group of like minded reprobates, folk, there was a lot of discussion over the original power screen mount brackets failing.
To pre-empt failure, I manufactured a replacement bracket from stainless steel plate, needless to say, fitted it and forgot about it!   :hammer:
Now I've sold the bike on, fettling in the garage found the original, intact screen bracket!
Please refer to pics added below.
Not sure if genuine big K part is still available, can't locate previous posts, but if anyone has a need, I have one ready to go!
Price .......to be discussed if needed.
Let me know.

How long do chains last nowadays?

My last chain drive was on a VFR750 back in 2000. I had to change the chain and sprockets every 8K for about £400. That'd be three times a year at my current mileage!

Too many variables, power, riding style, maintenance, environment, but with new quality lubricants / chains etc as long as they're looked after I'm expecting 15-20,000 miles!
As said above, me 700GS, only 72 horses, with auto oiler fitted, I've only adjusted chain twice in 8,000 miles. It gets washed every couple of months, coat of chain spray wax after wash, then let the oiler do the day to day lube, and that's just gear oil!
Big believer in you pay for "what you get" with chain kits, same as brake pads and tyres!

 :agree:
Self adhesive foam draught excluder works a treat, as does an old car door seal from a scrappy fixed with a glue gun to box base or plate!

Interesting that we don't mention belt drive in drivetrain technology?
Only ever had one, an old GPZ305, fantastic idea as far as I can see?
OK, supposed to not be as efficient in power transfer, but it's like having a mega cush-drive fitted!
Only read about failures, but know of none personally, and with minimal adjustment, and service life 30-40K what's not to like?
And does not shaft / bevel drives have issues? We've heard of weeping seals, big time on BM's
Chain drive with an auto / PD Oiler (electrical - love 'em) is as good as anything, My F700GS- 8,000 miles, chain adjusted twice! Got me hands dirtier changing the shaft oil on the GTR!
Awaiting barrage of replies...............................................

well whats the 'deal' Dick ....what have you replaced the GTR with ?
In the garage is now a 955i Triumph Speed Triple, total change! The one bike I regret moving on more than any other is my old Tiger 1050, been looking for a cheap trumpet for a while, found one and the dealer desperately wanted my GTR. So, triumph and a very substantial cheque came my way! Will use my F700gs for tours once I get a pair of panniers!  I'll miss the engine of the GTR, but only really used it for purpose 2 weeks a year on holiday. So fettle and play time on an old new toy!  :) I just love that engine! 😎

The Market / Misc bits up for grabs
October 11, 2017, 09:14:11 PM
As the beast has moved on today, miscellaneous bits salvaged ready to sell on!
Genuine Kawasaki SatNav mount, with spacers and original mounting bolts. No screws (3mm?) for mounting sat nav cradle to mount, but these should be with your sat nav - £24 posted or £20 collect.
Laminar Lip for MK1 (2007 - 2009), very good condition, but some typical screen marks from use. 6 spare self adhesive locking pads included which you fix to screen to secure Lip, some folk do drill and bolt. £55 posted  or £50 collect.
Home made 34rmm bar risers, machined aluminium, correct length replacement hex cap head bolts, and rubber gasket that I fitted between riser and bars.
Tapped to allow mount of original brake line couplers bolted to top yolk, no need to extend brake lines, hard to see home made when fitted, but make such a difference in riding position. £35 posted or £30 collect.
Home made mounting bracket for camera etc. Designed for Mk1 (2007 - 2009) not sure if it will fit later. Remove two upper screws on inner n/s fairing cover and replace with bracket, replacement screws and spacers. £5 posted.
Bagster / Baglux Mk1 (2007 - 2009) tank cover / tank bag mount, excellent condition, all straps / clamps good, tank pocket opening cover, and grey that looks in place on silver / grey bike! £70 posted or £65 collect.
Bagster / Baglux expandable tank bag for above, think it's 30 / 36 litres, matching grey, all zips / pockets / straps in good order, been used once a year for past 5 years without issue! £60 posted or £55 collect.
Possibly Delkevic 350mm oval silencer and stainless link pipe, if I can fit it to the new bike it'll just be the link pipe, open for discussion.
All parts available to see / fit / try over a brew at Newport in Shropshire (TF10 9LN postcode) otherwise if posted will be economy courier signed for and insured.
All prices negotiable, within sensible reason!

All parts on ebay now if pictures needed, and exhaust is now up for grabs.

Any ?'s please PM me.
