I do like it, we used to fit these covers onto CB1300's.

Thanks guys, I've not seen this on a CB1300. I'll look up some pics

when do the coloured LEDs go in there ;)

Lol, as it happens.... I do have green LEDs in the vents, but no plan as yet to fit lighting inside the cover.  :lipsrsealed:

I thought I'd try something different on the GTR.
£55 and 3 weeks later I had one of China's finest exports, obviously it was designed for the ZZR but the covers are the same on both models.
Another £23 got me a genuine gasket and oil sight glass (neither supplied with cover).

I decided to cheat and I covered the crash protection in foam then lay the bike on its side to change the cover (oil changed 400 miles ago). A few bolts and removal of R/H crash protector gave enough access without stripping the fairings off.
It fitted simply enough and looked nice....
Test ride time....
Should have known..... Oil leak , only a very light dribble on the casing but a leak nonetheless.
Further investigation and monitoring revealed that it was from the perspex cover and not the main gasket.
Bike back on its side and I'm now remembering that it's not a good idea to lay the bike on its side on a warm day with a full tank of fuel
Cover removed and original back on temporary duty.
This time I stripped out the bolts holding the perspex in and it became glaringly obvious as to why there was a leak.
Half the bolt holes were too shallow when drilled and tapped which prevented the perspex from being clamped down.
Due to the manufacturer getting too happy with adhesive I found half the bolts stripped out the thread from the casting.
No matter, drill/tap set out and I opened up the holes fully and tapped them up from M4 to take 12mm long M5 bolts.
Some de-burring and cleaning before any assembly.
An opportunity now to fit stainless in place of whatever they may have been. The perspex chipped on one corner when I tried to open up the holes so I reverted to using a drill bit mounted in a screwdriver handle.
A bead of sealant around the seat of the perspex ensures a leak free fitment.
Refitted and a good test run including 10k rpm and firm acceleration revealed no further leaks
A bit of gold vinyl to cover the ZX14 on the perspex and to act as a level guide finished the job.

Not to everyones taste but it is mine.

I've been busy and off forum for a long while but still have my bike and loving it!
A few changes cosmetically, wheels coated black with metal flake and a bit of vinyl application.
A few pics attached of its current incarnation, still a few bits to do when time allows.

I went with the Akrapovic, it's a nice sound and fit for the bike.
Take out the two baffles and it screas  and barks at you also confusing people while they're looking for a ZX10 .
Although to be honest I'm sure whatever you choose you'll enjoy it compared to the sedate standard can.

It would be nice to get some bikes together with all the different cans on to compare.
Let us know what you choose.

Sorry, I've not had a chance to get back online.

Tried to contact akra via facebook to understand if this fitting is normal. They tell me to contact the distributor which is... in italy.
This is starting to be ugly...
Can anybody who has this silencer check if there is a mouvement between the silencer and the pipe? (both akra parts). I don't have a problem between the pipe and the bike pipes (Kawa parts)
Cheers

See yellow where my problem is:

The silencer is classed as a slip on which is held on by springs.

You have fitted it correctly and it will have a little movement which will reduce when it's hot, you will have had a tube of grease which you apply to allow that expansion without binding.

You don't need a gasket as that is eliminated by the springs.

If you want to remove the baffles just remove the small rubber plugs and you can access the small bolts through the holes. You can then remove them, I used a spring hook but if you're careful you can use a bit of cloth and pliers.

Hello

Just got mine

Quick questions :

1) The clamp that came with the exhaust is to be used to connect it to the engine header pipe?
I feel the diameter is realy small...

2) How to remove the dbkiller?

Sincerely

1, The clamp will be a tight fit at first but when it's tightened it will compress the pipe, if it was loose the bolt would stick out of the clamp and catch debris from the road eg bags etc..

2, The Db inserts/baffles are held on by small bolts, usually on the side towards the wheel or underneath.
If it's an Akropovic the bolt may be spot welded, make sure you have the right tool and undo counterclockwise, once out you should use something like a spring hook to pull them out without damaging the pipe.

Hope that helps.

They are the genuine Kawasaki ones, ridiculous price but have saved the panniers when dropped whilst stationary.

I had a moment of madness back In May and bought the Akrapovic for mine, I went for it based on the sound from them in general and just to be different.
The sound with baffles in is pleasant and a big improvement plus track legal for those days of playing a bit more, baffles removed and it is just a different beast altogether and will confuse most people into looking for a sport bike.

I have no regrets in buying it and the workmanship is excellent,  the titanium link pipe weighs about the same as my mobile phone but the silencer is still relatively heavy  and I'm sure some are lighter.

I went for an Akropovic and have to say it sounds awesome with the baffles out.
A bit expensive but decided I wanted to be different lol.
