1400GTR Discussion / going going almost gone
June 20, 2013, 04:32:09 PM
well after 2 years ownership I am getting rid of my GTR for a K1600
i want something a little more comfy and easy to ride that has all the bits and tweaks that a tourer should have
Build quality is also a must after suffering very early onslaught of rust and corrosion and paint flaking off my poorly finished Kwak. Shame really as the bike itself is superb, but this has done enough for me never to consider a Kwak again in the future

Goodbye all

had exactly same problem on my 2011 gtr. approached my local dealers who did an inspection and agreed it was early corrosion of most metal parts. Kawasaki refused to do any work under warranty. Blamed me for impropper cleaning. the warranty aint worth the paper it is written on. poor quality. may i add i use acf50 on all metal bits (as recommended by k) but this hasnt stopped the corrosion, paint flaking etc. I gave up trying. wouldnt buy another kwack once i trade this in. shame as i love the bike

Have you seen where he lives, worse than living in Hull  :sweatdrop: .

Do you have a garage/shed or do you park it on the street?

lol. used to live in Hull myself .... :mfr_lol:

Hi

Really fancy those top box lights, but i am absolutely useless when it comes to doing any sort of electrics or wiring work. Does anyone know anybody on the forum preferably near Hull who may undertake the work for a fee. Also a fuse box

cheers

I know that there are a couple of posts regarding the location of the spare/aux wires on the l/h side front but can anyone confirm that these are the black and black/yellow ones that have a connector that appears to be connected to the air intake plastic.
there is a large rubber housing that has a multiple of wires in it but can not locate the black black/yellow ones in the rubber glove.

i am very techie challenged so help would be appreciated please  :ohplease:

btw 2011 gtr 1400

cheers

I have a pair of mirrors the same as Debs (her photo). Readily available on fleabay and I find them very useful, plus they are easily attached without any drilling or modification of the original mirrors.

also got a pair of these. rode with them once and one of the mirrors came unstuck so havent used them again (easy to fit/unfit), not sure i liked everyone laughing at me with them fitted anyhow.

What bloody difference does the thickness of the plastic make. Fact is they dont burst open and scatter your assorted goodies all over the queens highway. Whats more I have never heard of anyone having the plate/ box break. I have used, and overloaded mine lots of times and it has never given me cause for concern.  As Steve says if your not happy with it send it back, then spend your cash on something else.

sorry but mine did just that on a trip to Switzerland. i ended up having to use a bungie cargo net to help keep it closed. my mates ended up calling the bike a 'KAWABUNGIE 1400' lol
i got a replacement under warranty, that is still flimsy and can be opened without a key. should have got a give

I am very interested in fitting DRLs but can not decide where the best place to fit them on the GTR would be. I dont like them sitting outside the natural lines of the bike as i feel they spoil the 'sleekness' of the lines.

any one any ideas and if poss some pictures please

many thanks

WELL DONE LONEWOLF

I am a senior observer with the IAM and have to say, taking training and passing my advanced test back in 2004 was the best biking decision I ever made!all to often do we see bikers who can clearly ride and have been for many years but are sometimes unable to keep up on the 'twistes' at the NSL! the soon catch you up on the straights but are soon lost again when you get a series of bends. any how in my opinion training further to improve does no one any harm!

Having just watched this for the first time i  have to say that the standard of riding by the GTR rider wasn't very good. Totally un-smooth through the bends, hanging off the bike, wrong positions on bends and obviously too fast for his capabilities. surprised that the camera bike followed him into the cloud of dust on the wrong side of the road also.....

we all need to take more care, and if need be training  ::)

I've had my GTR since beginning of May and have done 8.5K so far and have to report very smooth gear changes. Nothing to moan about with the bike so far... just love it
my previous bike was a 04 Yam FJR1300 which i also loved. went to look at buying an new one of those but go a lot more for my money with the GTR... wise move

Cheers Martin

I am after a stick-on solution for the back of the mirrors, but I am interested in the topbox light system. are you based in the States where these are from or in the UK (as I am). either way let me know the outcome and ease of fitting etc. please

cheers
