Title: Doom and Gloom
Post by: lamin on November 07, 2011, 10:46:47 PM
Gettin a weird feeling at the moment, people selling their GTR's for crazy prices, a guy in Fife wants £7000 for a 2 year old pristine bike, i paid the thick end of fourteen grand for mine a few months ago, with a few extras, tax and ins. you know what i mean. Our August trip took myself and wife to Romania and i can honestly say i would not contemplate any other bike for this trip, by a country mile the best bike I've ever owned. So, if your a biker, seams hard times are lurking, after all, the recession can creep up and bite you on the bum, and the bike could be the first to go. Hard Times indeed xx

hi mate,
yeap i agree there,i was also looking over the weekend to,and there is a few very cheap offers floating around-some of them seem to good to be true, almost puts a bit of doubt in ya mind as if there is summat sinister behind it!!!- but your right, times are gonna get a bit tighter in the coming weeks!!!
id be gutted if i had to sell mine, let alone if i had bought it new one and had already taken a big hit as soon as it left the showroom.

hi regarding your resales of your gtr's.i
have had numerous zzr's.always wanted the gtr.i looked for ages to get the right gtr,but as i was looking and talking to potential sellers with gtr's i realised then that no one was selling them.i am now trying to sell my totally mint june 2010 gtr with 2900 miles.asking £8750.way below what a dealer would sell it for, just been serviced with fsh,it is now wrapped up in the garage,no one seems interested,i think once you have bought one you will find it difficult to sell on at a reasonable price, after seeing some posts from members who were shocked what the dealer is offering for them that is unfortunatly the norm, unless you are a dealer you wil probably be facing a big hit if you change or sell your bike.i was going to get another gtr around march/april next year,if i sold mine, but i think now i will just sell it (if i can!! !!)and get another zzr 1200 next year,i just don't get the time to enjoy riding the gtr..

At this time of the season there does seem to be a lot of touring bikes about for sale.

I was chatting to a dealer last weekend and that very subject came up.
his opinion on it was that a lot of blokes 'of a certain age' rock in around April time with dreams of doing 'The Alps/italy/spain etc'  spend a HOOOOGE wad on bikes, kit, luggage yadda yadda, and then either don't get the time or the wife's not to happy or they just bottle it, and then sell the whole lot on Ebay.
The following spring another midlife hobby then turns up.

I'm not saying that is the case for everyone but there are a lot of peeps who's motorcycling ethos is
'Live to Ride. Ride to the Bike dealers every weekend (when its warm) have a coffee and ride home'

Obviously it's not everybody's kettle of fish to go touring.
For your typical out-for-a-run-on-a-Saturday-afternoon-but-only-if-the-sun-shines-and-the-wife-doesn't-have-other-plans biker a real tourer is obviously overkill.
After all they cost a lot of money and the insurance isn't cheap either.
Well so they end up with "I'm selling my GTR because I don't use it often enough". ::)
All the better for the real  touring enthusiast to pick up a second-hand bargain. ;D

HATE TO ADD TO THE DOOM AND GLOOM BUT AS YOU KNOW I AM HAVING TROUBLE TRYING TO MOVE ON MY GTR BEFORE THE BAD WEATHER COMES,PHONED A DEALER TO-DAY, TOLD HIM I AM SELLING MY MINT JUNE 2010 WITH FSH AND ONLY 2900 MILES,AND HAVE EXTRAS, WOULD HE BE INTERESTED,HE IS AT £7200.JUST AS I THOUGHT THOUGH,COULDN'T POSSIBLY LET IT GO FOR THAT!!!!LIKE I SAID BEFORE BEAUTIFUL BIKES,BUT ONCE YOU HAVE ONE BEST TO RUN IT  AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ,UNFORTUNATLEY I WORK FOR MYSELF AND JUST DONT GET THE TIME.ESPECIALLY NOW MY BUSINESS PARTNER IS GONG TO BE OFF NOW FOR 2 MONTHS AFTER GETTING A NEW HIP.

I feel very sorry for you lads that are trying to sell, but apart from the fact we are in a hugh recession with everyone watching the pennies the simple truth is buyers at this time of year are thin on the ground and you would struggle to sell even if the economy was booming. If you possibly can hang on until spring, and I'm sure they will be easier to move on. Simple truth is It's the wrong time of year. That said for anyone who finds themselves having to sell I really do wish you good luck, and lets all hope that better times are just around the corner. :)

Keith, if only your bike was red ...

As Geoff says, winter really isn't the time to sell. I'm sure you'd get a better price come spring/summer.

You are all right of course ... double dip recession and 7 weeks to Christmas don't help ... if I had the £ I would buy the lot, store them over the next few months and let you have them back at the sale price ... cos I'm like that  ;D
A friend at work has just managed to sell his 6 month old BMW RRS/sports thingy/ultra fast bike ... you know which one I mean ! ... £14000 in April ... £10000 just last week !!!!
Went to the dealer just for a feel and he offered him £9000 saying that he already had 5 of them almost in the same age condition that he wasn't shifting because sports bikes will only go in the spring/summer .. I think it's the same for most bikes isn't it ? He is smarting though ... that's a loss of nearly a grand a month  :'( :'(

hi guys,
tha bmw dealer??????????????- for all the bullshit they give you when you mention your looking for new!!!!!!!!!!-just goes to prove,i wont ever buy new again, most of the drop in second hand goes to the dealer and salesman!.
im fooked if im giving um any more of my dosh!
being ripped off in buying the bike first hand, main dealer servicing, accessories etc. they tell you to have the servicing done by them, unless the resale value would be reduced!!!!!!!!!, then they kick you in the balls with a piss poor price like they gave one of our lot!!!!!!!!
WANKERS! the dealers wonder why they are not selling many bikes >:(
