I've finally got around to thinking about a Sat Nav for the bike and have decided on the Garmin Zumo.
My question concerns where best to mount it on the machine. I know Kawa do a mounting plate for the headstock and the Zumo also comes with a kit to fix it on the clutch m/cylinder assembly.
I was hoping you kind folk would give me the benefit of your thoughts on the best position to fix it.
Many thanks
Laner
I have mine mounted on the clutch bracket like I had it on the Bandit and I think it's perfectly fine.
I've got the Kawasaki mount and I think it's excellent, stable, clear and easy to use. Not a fan of having satnav flapping around on the bars, especially if you have a larger unit like a 660. Use the satnav a lot and very happy with Kwak mount.
I have the Kawak mount and very happy with it, prefer the Sat nav to be in centre just below the clocks etc - so Kawak mount seems to be spot in
Steve
Yup i have the Kawasaki mount as well, but i changed mine a bit so that there is a Ram mount fitted to the bracket as well as the sat nav, it makes it a bit easier to see as you can change the arm bit in the middle... does that make sense! ??? probably not...lol... i can post a pic if you like.
i also got it fitted so that the power comes on and off with the ignition ;D
I use one of these.

Solid as a rock. Very good value for money.
112 mph? You've been riding well over the limit there Mr. Wolf. :o :o
Do you find it a pain (in the finger) to turn the ignition on and off with the sat nav where it is? I have big (ish) hands and might find it a fad.

Lol, everybody that knows me, knows I am not capable of riding that fast. ;D
I used it at work a few times initially to test it out, thats how it ended up recording that speed.

Alan, absolutely not. You are obviously sat a lot higher that the height of the sat nav, you simply lean forward and turn the ignition off, just like you would if the Zumo wasn't there. There's no difference or inconvenience caused at all.

Ok thanks, i shall endevour to purchase such a system at the bike show and try for much discount.

I think the Techmount system I have was about £80, not cheap, but then nothing is these days.
I am not thinking of getting my sat nav wired in. But would appreciate any feedback on suitable sat nav bags for the bike which you can put your car sat nav in. I have seen a lot on e bay which are velcro straps. Wondered if anyone uses this method.

Well, the Kawa mount is £42 according to their website but for my Zumo 550 the old clutch bracket mount is just fine.
I agree it might probably be better sitting in the middle (especially for bigger screens) but I don't know if I want to fork out that kind of money for a mounting bracket?
But I guess it comes down to what you are used to.
I kept the GPS including bracket from my 1250 Bandit GT when I traded it in and M&S Newcastle put it on for me at the first service free of charge. Before that I used the car mounting bracket with the suction cup on the tank and connected it to the power socket for a week or so.
It worked OK but I was always worried that it might fall off at high speed.
I also thought it was a bit too low there and a bigger distraction than on the handle bar.

I know that Hein Gericke do a small sat nav bag which may even be magnetic, it's pretty cheap too I seem to recall, possibly £15ish.
I made a centre mount bracket for the zumo. I drilled the ball mount that came with the zumo and attached a length of screwed rod long enough to go through the headstock. Then with appropriate washers and locknuts fixed underneath between the forks.
Sat nav fits right in the centre and well belw the clocks with no vibration, works well.
Thanks guys for your helpful ideas and suggestions.
Think I'll go with the central mounting position, just need to decide now between the Techmount and Kawa's own.
Thanks again.

Just back from work so a little late with my input but I went with the K mount for my 660 and it is perfect. ;D
If like me you dont often need Twat Nav & you have an I phone , download full uk & europe Tom Tom for £60 . I pop the phone in top of tank bag & way I go. For battery back up I have a booster pack as plugging it in to accessory resulted in horrific un suppressed noise. Works well enough. Believe you can get specific mounts for the I phone now too.
So fairly cost effective alternative.
