Post by: 2kwacks on October 30, 2011, 05:58:26 PM

I've seen those pics before, I wonder if the 100 degrees temperature was a factor.

If so we'll be ok here.  ::)

Yeah, we've seen this on this forum before.
Looks like the PR3 is designed for European conditions and not for a desert climate like LA.
BTW if my back tyre would have that much rubber left after 10,000 miles I'll be a happy man.  ;D

I was not aware this link had allready been posted, but there again I'm a part timer! will try to keep up with current events in future. I agree any tyre that as that much tread left after 10,000 miles is good enough for me to invest in a pair. don't think this is a fault of the tyre. surely if it was, it would have showed much earlier, can't see the 100 degrees heat being a factor either. I should imagine theses tyres are tested to dam well near destruction. bit of a mystery really, I should imagine the tyre as been subjected to some source of excess heat or chemical for it to break away like it as done.

Ok  i would dispute what the guy has said, i worked as a tyre tech for Michelin for sometime when they were based in watford. and have seen a lot of demolished tyres.

this one has deffo blistered due to overheating and i would say that by looking at the pic the tyre has been either run flat or at very low pressure, in the second pic by the crease of the guys thumb i can see deformation marks. This occurs when the tyre is alowed to stretch due to low pressure.

Obviously i cant be certain cos i can't have a good looky see, but thats what it looks like to me.

Also 10k miles is a bloody long time to have a tyre on, and there may be an issue on the amount of heating and cooling cycles that the tyre has been asked to endure.

There is always a chance that you'll get a faulty tyre and it will de-laminate, but there are very rare now-a-days.
