just bought this 39ltr top box of ebay, excellent condition with the colour match cover and the back rest. did not get any instructions with it, ok its hardly rocket science! but just want to make sure its positioned correct. it apears it only fits in the one position, so please take a look and compare it to yours, I now understand why theres been alot of concerns about how secure it is, it dose seem to wobble when pressure is applied, but in normal use would you say it was fit for the job? I understand you can buy a more sturdy rack. just courious to see how many of you may have had problems with the kawasaki topbox and original rack, and now have change to a more strudy rack?

Looks ok to me .... I have the 42L box ( ? ) and am quite happy with it .. loaded up and took it to France, a bit of wobble in it but nothing to put me off ;D
thanks rusty it seems fine, but just checking everthing was as it should be! :)
Firstly congratulations on winning the box that I was also watching on Ebay, out of interest does it say in the lid that the payload of the box is 6kg? Only reason I ask is that I bought a few days ago a coloured top section for the box and it says on it that you shouldn't exceed 6kg, I thought from what I have read on here that the payload was a mere 3kg in principle. Now I'm confused. :o
Confused Northerner .... only to be expected ;D ;D ;D

I've never seen the smaller 39l top box so I can't tell what the model and maximum load is.
The larger 47l re-branded Givi Simply E470 has a maximum load of 3kg, though.
Maybe that answers your question.
I've got a 46ltr one... :o.... and mine says 5 kilos max...confoosing yes!... i think it's more to do with the constuction of the box as to the difference in weight capacity..
Oh yes and areo design of the screen enables you to ride with the top box lid open and nothing falling out.....despite all the people behind you flashing and tooting..... ;)

Must be a different one again.
I actually saw a 46l box on a new Versys in the shop when I was signing my life away for the GTR in June.
That was the same box I used to have on the Bandit (10kg) and I was told I would get the same on the GTR too.
Turned out to be a lot of bull, though.
So by the look of it Kawasaki is re-branding more than 2 Givi models and if you're unlucky you end up with a Simply E470.
Just checked the Kawa website and they only offer 39l and 47l boxes as accessories for the GTR.
Supposedly they are specially designed to match the bike but at least the 47l one looks just like the GIVI Simply E470.
So maybe your dealer put one on from another bike because he knew the Simply E470 isn't really up to scratch or he just had a 46l lying around that he wanted to get rid off.
just to confirm have just look at the label inside the 39ltr box, load 6kg max and 80 m.p.h max.

Yep, that's what mine says. So if it says 6kg where does the 3kg limit come from? At least 6kg is a more sensible option.
Although I rarely ever ever ever use the topbox but with hindsight I wouldn't have gone for the 47l Kawasaki Coloured matched topbox when I ordered my GTR last year. The only time I ever use the topbox is when I partner is on the back but the Kawasaki 47L topbox won't take 2 full faced helmets which I find frustrating - considering the 45 L Honda topbox for CBF1000 would take two helmets with room to spare.

Hi 2kwaks
It looks exactly the same as mine which was fitted by the Kawasaki dealer when new. If you want to compare with mine I am in Stockport so just give us a message and we can meet on a weekend somewhere. My last bike a Bandit 1200 with Givvi luggage, had the backrest pad which my wife found a great comfort but tended to make her sit and lean further back. Without it on the Kawasaki she sits further forward and she has not complained yet. May be just the GTR being that much bigger and more comfy.

am unable to shed any light on that! thats what the box label says. however thats what givi recommend, but one must asume kawasaki have done there homework and work out if that weight is suitable for the gtr1400 rack and fittings, so I would be happy in using the box to its max limit. 80 m.p.h touring speed seems reasonable to me, so also happy with that. but I would not exceed theses limits, infact I would tend to lean towards the side of caution and load under as much as possible.
